I’ll admit, while I ended up really liking Pepe’s Purple Passion, I mainly wanted it for the name, because of this handsome guy whose name is Pepe. Although we usually call him Tex. πŸ™‚

OPI Deutsch You Want Me Baby and comparison to Orly Flicker

Deutsch You Want Me Baby is from OPI’s Germany collection from last fall.

OPI Deutsch You Want Me Baby

It’s a very nice metallic rusty red-orange. Its formula is thin and smooth and only needs two coats but I’m wearing three in the photos because my nails were in rough shape at the time and I didn’t use any basecoat.

OPI Deutsch You Want Me Baby

I compared it to Orly Flicker, which came out around the same time. Left to right in the comparison photos: Deutsch, Flicker, Deutsch, Flicker. Three coats of Flicker, which is more sheer than Deutsch.

OPI Deutsch You Want Me Baby and Orly Flicker

The base colour is similar between these two, but the Orly is more orange and glowy and has a mild duochrome that the OPI does not. This last photo shows that distinction best:

Both great polishes but I much prefer Flicker; it’s one of my favourites!

Nicole by OPI Cinna-man of My Dreams

Breaking the silence with a texture polish! This is Nicole by OPI Cinna-man of My Dreams (what’s with all the stupid “man of my dreams” names? They already had “snow-man of my dreams” in one of the winter collections, sheesh! heheh). Anyway, this is a great polish!

Nicole by OPI Cinna-man of My Dreams

It’s a sparkly multicoloured texture, with predominantly brick red and burgundy tones and little sparks that appear orange and blue in the light. Very complex and deep polish!

Nicole by OPI Cinna-man of My Dreams

Shown are two coats; it has a great formula. As usual any of the photos can be clicked on to see the full size versions that show the sparkly detail of the texture!

Nicole by OPI Cinna-man of My Dreams

Here it is with topcoat. I added a third coat before the topcoat because I had a bit of tip wear from already having the polish on for a while.

Nicole by OPI Cinna-man of My Dreams

I did an accent thumb nail in Nicole by OPI Just Busta Mauve since they seem like such complementary polishes!

Busta Mauve is kind of like the foily fleck version of Cinna-man, but it does have a lot more blue and purple in it. That, and the fact that the texture “ate” my first coat of topcoat pretty well, inspired me to add OPI I Juggle Men overtop.

Love this combo!!

A England Briarwood and Briar Rose

Today I have two A England polishes to show you, Briarwood and Briar Rose from the Burne-Jones Dream collection. Briarwood is a deep reddish-brown metallic based holo. Its base is more brown, but it has a metallic red shimmer to it. Briar Rose is a similar holo in a fuchsia pink shade. These are pretty much perfect in terms of formula. The photos show just one coat of each, and no top coat. I love these! Not much more to say about perfection so I’ll let the photos speak for themselves!

Glitter Gal Transfusion and comparisons

I recently got the opportunity to review one of Glitter Gal’s newer holos, Transfusion! Transfusion is a deep red-violet shade and is really gorgeous!

Glitter Gal Transfusion

Its colour is somewhere in between burgundy and purple. I used two coats and no top coat for these photos.

Glitter Gal Transfusion

The formula is great; no issues at all!

Glitter Gal Transfusion

Lovely, and unique holo shade!

Glitter Gal Transfusion

Here is a comparison to some other burgundy and purple holos I have.

Thumb to pinkie: Picture Polish Monroe (original version), Ozotic 513, Glitter Gal Transfusion, Zoya Aurora, LA Girl Sparkle Ruby

Thumb to pinkie: Picture Polish Monroe (original version), Ozotic 513, Glitter Gal Transfusion, Zoya Aurora, LA Girl Sparkle Ruby

Here we have Picture Polish Monroe (original version – the new version has much larger holo particles and is closer to LA Girl Sparkle Ruby from what I’ve seen in photos), Ozotic 513, Glitter Gal Transfusion, Zoya Aurora, LA Girl Sparkle Ruby. Two coats of each (although Sparkle Ruby could be a one-coater).

The comparison under the Ott Lite:

Thumb to pinkie: Picture Polish Monroe (original version), Ozotic 513, Glitter Gal Transfusion, Zoya Aurora, LA Girl Sparkle Ruby

As you can see, these are all great polishes but none of the others are similar to Transfusion! I love Transfusion, and its sister polish, a warm brick-red holo shade named Hot Chili, is going on my wish list!

You can order Glitter Gal polishes directly from them here or from one of their distributors listed here.

Disclosure: Glitter Gal Transfusion was provided to me by the company for review purposes. The opinions stated are my own honest opinions.

Orly Smolder

Orly Smolder is from last fall’s Fired Up collection (these photos were actually also taken last fall, still have a backlog of posts!). It’s a beautiful, dark glowing burgundy wine red shimmer. It’s not so dark that it ever looks black, and there is a hint of an orange flash to it in the bottle, that doesn’t really show up on the nail. Gorgeous colour, though!

Orly Smolder

This is two coats (plus topcoat), and the formula is great, no complaints at all.

Orly Smolder

This mani was a couple of days old when I took the photos, so if you click to look at the full size photos you may see a few scratches on the surface and some tip wear, but that’s just my usual wear and tear.

Orly Smolder

This one is *almost* as awesome as Flicker, my favourite from the Fired Up collection!

Ruby White Tips Batworld Collection – Ethereal and Poppy

Hi all, I have two more polishes from the Ruby White Tips Batworld collection to show you today! The first two polishes, Boo2 and Peekaboo, were shown in my last post here. As mentioned there, half the proceeds of this collection go to the Batworld sanctuary to help them rescue, rehabilitate and care for orphaned and injured bats.

The first polish I’m showing you today, Ethereal, is probably my very favourite from the collection so far. When I was preparing this post I went to the Batworld.org website to get photos of the rescued bats who inspired these polishes, and I was very sad to learn that Ethereal, the little albino bat, just recently passed away suddenly. You can read her story here. Rest in peace, little one. 😦

Rest in peace, Ethereal. Photo credit: Batworld.org

Here is a bottle picture of the lovely polish named for Ethereal. I love the matte peach glitters in this one, they make it so very unique.

Ruby White Tips Ethereal

The swatches of Ethereal show three coats of polish. Two would probably be okay for those who don’t have yellowy-stained nails like I do. It would also make a great layering polish over many other shades!

Ruby White Tips Ethereal

The formula was thick but not too thick, with a good amount of glitter (I didn’t have to do any dabbing or placing of glitter when applying it). There’s a lot going on in this polish, with its white shimmery base, peach matte hex glitter, satiny white hex glitter, square iridescent glitter that reflects pink and green, sparse scattered micro holo particles and pink/purple shimmer flecks, and small iridescent flakie shards that reflect blue and purple… and maybe some other things I’m not catching? πŸ™‚ Despite all that, it’s in no way “too busy”, it all works perfectly together! Did I mention this one is my favourite? πŸ˜‰

Ruby White Tips Ethereal

A slight texture can be felt from all the flakes and glitter, but a good topcoat takes care of that.

Ruby White Tips Ethereal

Ethereal in the shade:

Ruby White Tips Ethereal

I had an email conversation with Laura, the creator of Ruby White Tips, and she mentioned plans to create a new shade “in memory of” Ethereal and possibly retiring this one, so if you like it like I do, I’d suggest picking it up sooner rather than later.

The second polish I have to show today was inspired by Poppy, an “Indian flying fox”, one of the largest species of bat, who was “retired” from a zoo. Glad she is now in a non-exploitative sanctuary!

This is two coats of Poppy the polish (three on my pinky, just because of a smudge). The application of this polish was smooth and easy.

Ruby White Tips Poppy

The shade of the polish fits its name, being a red shimmer that has a brick undertone and pink shimmer. There is holo microglitter throughout the polish.

Ruby White Tips Poppy

The microglitter leaves a bit of texture on the nail, so a coat or two of a good topcoat is recommended. I know I took some photos pre-topcoat and some after adding a layer of topcoat, but I can’t remember now which each of these particular photos were, sorry about that!

Ruby White Tips Poppy

A nice, pretty shade to go with a very pretty bat! πŸ˜€

Ruby White Tips Poppy

As I mentioned, I was talking to the creator of Ruby White Tips, and shared with her the link to my first Batworld swatch post. She was kind enough to offer a coupon code for my readers for 15% off purchases at her Etsy store! (Discount not valid on Mystery Bags.) The code is VEGANCLAWS. Thanks, Laura, and glad you like the swatches! πŸ˜€

From the Vault

I still have some really old photos from when I started blogging, so I thought I would post them in a few installments!

This first one is a fall mani that I really loved! Thumb to pinkie: Finger Paints Sketchy Character, a mustard yellow frankenpolish, Kleancolor Fashionista, China Glaze Brownstone, Joe Fresh Pumpkin. The glitter gradient over everything was done with Nubar Lime Green Glitter and Orange Glitter.

Madrid: candy apple red jelly. It has a smooth formula, and is even okay at one coat for a sheer wash of cherry. Two coats in the photos. I swatched this without base coat, and it stained pink a little bit, so be sure to use a good base coat!

Lisbon: a metallic navy with a good consistency. I used two coats, and it bubbled a little as it dried because I used a too thick second coat. I think three thin coats would have been better – I used three thin coats on my thumb, and it didn’t have any bubbles.

Some Cult Nails Swatches

How about a few random Cult Nails swatches?

Spontaneous, a dusty purple creme with small purple glitter. The formula was a little thinner and runnier than I expected; I used three coats for coverage and to even it out. Shown with Wicked Fast topcoat.

Cult Nails Spontaneous

Cult Nails Spontaneous

Cult Nails Spontaneous

Before topcoat, it dries a little matte and slightly textured:

Cult Nails Spontaneous

Blackout. It isn’t black, but a dark charcoal grey. If you look at it from up close in real life, you can see that it’s actually got a sheer jellyish base packed full of tiny little specks of pigment giving it a soft, smoky finish. It does look pretty much black in some lighting situations, although not quite as much as it does here in my photos.

Cult Nails Blackout

I used two coats although it was still just slightly patchy with its jelly base so I could have used a third.

Cult Nails Blackout

This photo is more true to colour, where you can tell that it’s grey and not black:

Cult Nails Blackout

Comparison with a couple of medium-dark greys to show how much darker it is: Kleancolor Concrete (1 thick coat), Blackout (2 coats), Misa Office Polish-tics (3 coats, it was a bit thin). I should have also compared it to a true black, ah well…

Cult Nails Blackout, Kleancolor Black, Kleancolor Concrete

Top to bottom: Kleancolor Concrete, Cult Nails Blackout, Misa Office Polish-tics

Evil Queen, a pink-toned red semi-jelly. I don’t usually like cool toned reds on me, but I really like this one!

Cult Nails Evil Queen

It was almost a one-coater, but I did two coats for the photos.

Cult Nails Evil Queen

Great formula, shiny and smooth!

Cult Nails Evil Queen

Cult Nails Evil Queen

Feelin’ Froggy, a cool/neutral green with green shimmer. This one is sheer to let the shimmer shine through and I needed three coats. It’s a little cooler toned in real life; I’d say the first photo is the most colour accurate.
