Picture Polish Eerie, Kunimitsu Red Empress, and stamping

The mani I have to show you today features three great polishes and an awesome stamping plate from It Girl Nail Art.

picturepolish_eerie_kunimitsu_redempress_stamping3

On my index and middle finger are two coats plus top coat of Picture Polish Eerie, a lilac “bijou holo” i.e. scattered holo with multicoloured glass flecks. On my ring and pinkie, three coats plus top coat of Kunimitsu Nail Potions Red Empress, a great bluish lilac crelly with pink shimmer and various glitters in red, pink and copper.

picturepolish_eerie_kunimitsu_redempress_stamping2

I added stamping on the index finger using Colour Alike stamping polish “A Sunset” and an image from It Girl plate 101 from their recently released first set of three stamping plates.

picturepolish_eerie_kunimitsu_redempress_stamping

I even took pictures of my right hand, that’s how much I loved this mani! 😉 So, here are (entirely too many) random pics of this on both hands!

Here’s a picture of the It Girl plate. These are rectangular plates 6cm by 12cm long, and the images are quite large so no worries about them being too small for long or large nails. I’m going to be having a giveaway soon for one of the It Girl plates along with some other goodies so stay tuned for that. 🙂

A couple of China Glaze and Ellagee comparisons

Here’s a subtle single-dotted mani I did with China Glaze Sun Upon My Skin and Be More Pacific, using a dotting tool to add one dot of the other colour on each nail near the cuticle.

chinaglaze_sunuponmyskin_bemorepacific2

I used three coats plus top coat for both of these. The formula wasn’t my favourite; I found them a bit runny and not very self-leveling, and got some small bubbles in a few nails. But the colours are pretty.

chinaglaze_sunuponmyskin_bemorepacific

Here’s Thor hanging out in the background!

With flash:

chinaglaze_sunuponmyskin_bemorepacific_flash

I wanted to compare these pastels to a couple of similar Ellagee pastels from their Beach Bum collection – She Sells Seashells (yellow) and Seaside Cottage (green).

chinaglaze_sunuponmyskin_bemorepacific_ellagee_comp

Unfortunately I didn’t write down how many coats I used of the Ellagee polishes, but I’m pretty sure it was also three coats plus top coat for them. They did have a significantly nicer formula than these China Glazes in my opinion!

chinaglaze_sunuponmyskin_bemorepacific_ellagee_shesellsseashells_seasidecottage2

Left to right/top to bottom: Ellagee She Sells Seashells, China Glaze Sun Upon My Skin, Ellagee Seaside Cottage, China Glaze Be More Pacific. As you can see the Ellagee yellow is lighter and brighter, and while the greens are more similar to each other than the yellows, again the Ellagee is a little bit lighter and brighter.

chinaglaze_sunuponmyskin_bemorepacific_ellagee_shesellsseashells_seasidecottage

I then added a matte neon circle glitter topper, Ellagee Gumballs, over my comparison to try it out.

chinaglaze_sunuponmyskin_bemorepacific_ellagee_shesellsseashells_seasidecottage_gumballs3

While I love the colour and shape of the glitters, overall I was disappointed by this polish. I had only had it a few weeks before trying it, but the base had already developed a bit of a pink tint from bleeding glitters. As you can see in the photos it’s muddied the colours of the base polishes.

chinaglaze_sunuponmyskin_bemorepacific_ellagee_shesellsseashells_seasidecottage_gumballs2

I also found it pretty thick and ended up with some bubbles trying to get a good amount of glitter onto the nail and distributed. Ah well. I do really like the circle shape and the neon pastel colours. Placing the glitters individually with a dotting tool or orange stick would probably work out better!

Misa Jasmine and Picture Polish Jasmine

Two polishes named Jasmine! And they happen to go together very well.

picturepolish_misa_jasmine3

This is Misa Jasmine, a wonderfully dusty light purple creme, with an accent nail of Picture Polish Jasmine, which has green, silver and blue medium hex glitter and similar-sized purple square glitter in a lavender crelly base.

picturepolish_misa_jasmine2

I used two coats plus top coat for Misa Jasmine. It had a great, smooth and creamy formula.

picturepolish_misa_jasmine

For Picture Polish Jasmine, I used three coats plus top coat for even glitter coverage. With flash:

And here’s a little crossed-paws, head tilting (to follow the fingers I was wiggling at her!) Jasmine collage:

Girly Bits Mint-al Precision and IndiePolish Miami Beach

Girly Bits Mint-al Precision is a bright turquoise creme with gold iridescent microglitter and blue glass-fleck/flake-type shimmer. It dries slightly textured before topcoat. I used three coats, to cover some patchy spots, plus topcoat for this mani.

girlybits_mintalprecision_indiepolish_miamibeach2

I added one coat of IndiePolish Miami Beach on my ring fingers and thumbs.

girlybits_mintalprecision_indiepolish_miamibeach

girlybits_mintalprecision_indiepolish_miamibeach3

Miami Beach, which is unfortunately no longer available, is a matte glitter topper with large neon coral and yellow-lime satin hexes, medium yellow matte hexes, and tiny matte hot pink, yellow-lime satin, and metallic green hexes. Really like this colour combination!

The Great Evolving Black Dahlia Lacquer Manicure/Comparison

Warning, long and picture heavy post! I had a Black Dahlia Lacquer mani that just kept evolving! Except where noted, these were all two coats plus top coat.

Part 1, left hand – Striped Peonies with Rose Petals, under Ottlite:

With flash:

blackdahlialacquer_stripedpeonies_rosepetals_flash3

These two have a similar crelly finish with tons of colour-shifting glass fleck shimmer.

Part 1, right hand, Rose Petals with Striped Peonies, under Ottlite:

With flash:
blackdahlialacquer_rosepetals_stripedpeonies_flash

I decided to then pair Striped Peonies (on the right) with 90 in November (on the left) to do a little purple comparison – 90 in November is much warmer in tone and has a foil finish with some added glass flecks:

blackdahlialacquer_90innovember_stripedpeonies_bottles

Part 2, left hand, Striped Peonies with 90 in November, under Ottlite:

Part 3, left hand, Blooming Sunflowers with 90 in November, in sunlight:

Part 3, right hand, 90 in November with Blooming Sunflowers, stamped with Fingerpaints Picturesque Purple and plate Pueen 08, in sunlight:

blackdahlialacquer_90innovember_bloomingsunflowers_stamped

I then wanted to compare Blooming Sunflowers to Strawberry Fields; here they are in the bottles, not as close in colour as I’d thought – Blooming Sunflowers leans a lot more toward red, and its gold flakes are much larger and more prominent:

blackdahlialacquer_strawberryfields_bloomingsunflowers_bottles

Part 4, left hand, Blooming Sunflowers with Strawberry Fields. I used three coats of Strawberry Fields here, just because I smudged it a bit after the second. In sunlight:

blackdahlialacquer_bloomingsunflowers_strawberryfields2

blackdahlialacquer_bloomingsunflowers_strawberryfields

I didn’t take a picture of the right hand for Part 4.

Since Strawberry Fields was a lot pinker than Blooming Sunflowers, I then decided to compare it to Rose Petals:

blackdahlialacquer_rosepetals_strawberryfields_bottles

Rose Petals is a cooler pink, with pink shifting glass fleck shimmer, whereas the shimmer in Strawberry Fields is all tiny gold flakes and is less prominent once on the nail.

For the last version of the mani, I did an ombré/skittle-type thing, adding both Rose Petals and Dandelion Explosion, a coral crelly with peach and coral matte glitters, to the previous version. So here we have Part 5, index to pinkie: Dandelion Explosion (three coats – it’s also the bottle I’m holding), Blooming Sunflowers, Strawberry Fields, and Rose Petals:

A few odds and ends

A few random things, some of them pretty old photos! In reverse chronological order…

China Glaze Metro-pollen-tin, three coats plus top coat, taken with flash. Love this yellow-orange!

IndiePolish Spring Lilac, two coats, plus two coats topcoat (the formula was a little thick so the glitters got a bit lumpy).

China Glaze Ray-diant layered over black.

OPI Do You Think I’m Tex-y with a jelly sandwich accent nail. I *think* the iridescent glitter in the jelly sandwich was Butter London Tart With a Heart but I’m not 100% positive!

Two Grasshoppers and some stamping

I have a very spring-appropriate mani to show you today 🙂

eatsleeppolish_grasshoppa_bbcouture_grasshopper7

Grasshoppa’ by Eat Sleep Polish, the main polish in this mani, is unfortunately no longer available. It’s a great mint green with various shapes and sizes of pink and off-white matte glitters, lots of gold fleck shimmer, and the creme base also has holo although it’s hard to tell in most lighting what with everything that’s going on in this awesome polish! But the holo was quite apparent when I was riding the elevator at work, gotta love elevator LED lighting! 😉

eatsleeppolish_grasshoppa_bbcouture_grasshopper6

I used two coats of Grasshoppa’ plus top coat.

eatsleeppolish_grasshoppa_bbcouture_grasshopper5

On my ring finger and thumb I used the second grasshopper polish, BB Couture Grasshopper.

eatsleeppolish_grasshoppa_bbcouture_grasshopper2

It’s a lighter more celery/yellow-toned green with some fine iridescent gold-green glitter in it.

eatsleeppolish_grasshoppa_bbcouture_grasshopper3

The BB Couture polish was kind of streaky and needed four coats plus top coat for complete coverage and evenness, but dry time was pretty good. I love this combo!

eatsleeppolish_grasshoppa_bbcouture_grasshopper4

I decided to add some stamping to the accent nails. I wanted to coordinate with the larger pink hex glitter in Grasshoppa’ so I used Pink Tourmaline by Lacquer Lust to stamp with. It stamped quite well using my Messy Mansion rectangular stamper.

eatsleeppolish_grasshoppa_bbc_grasshopper_stamping2

The design is from Bundle Monster plate BM-04. I stamped it once on each ring finger and twice on the thumbs, once on each side in opposite directions.

I love this mani so much! 😀

Kunimitsu Nail Potions Classic Tabby layered over Milani Teddy-Bare

March Fo(u)rth and conquer! Today I’ve got another cat-themed Kunimitsu polish to show you – Classic Tabby!

kunimitsu_classictabby_catstamp2

This is two coats of Classic Tabby, a clear-based glitter topper, over Milani Teddy-Bare. The cat stamp on my thumb is from plate HB49 and is done with Kleancolor Black.

kunimitsu_classictabby_catstamp

I used three coats of Teddy-Bare as the base, as I found the polish to be a bit thin and runny. Here it is on its own before the topper, but note that the first two photos are the most colour accurate – it’s definitely a taupe brown, not a chocolate brown as it appears in the rest of the photos. Sorry about that, the rest of them were taken in late-afternoon sunlight whereas the two above were taken the following day around midday.

milani_teddybare

Kunimitsu Classic Tabby contains various sizes of metallic brown, metallic burgundy, and matte black hex glitter, as well as tiny matte black bars (“hairy” glitter, very appropriate for the cat theme haha).

kunimitsu_classictabby2

I didn’t have any trouble with placing the glitter, it spread quite nicely, even the tiny bars which I was worried might all line up in the same direction, but that didn’t seem to be the case!

kunimitsu_classictabby

Now, he isn’t technically a “classic” tabby (just stripes instead of swirls/”bull’s eye” pattern, so he’s a “mackerel tabby”), but this polish and layering combo makes me think of my handsome Wilbur:

We do have a true classic tabby in our clowder also – beautiful Seymour is a classic tabby but with white as well:

Look at his adorable toe pads! ❤

A few odds and ends

I have a few random phone pics of relatively-recent manis to share today!

Quo by Orly Infinity and Beyond (same as Orly Milky Way), layered over Cosmetic Arts Sky High (which I think is the same as Color Club Take Me To Your Chateau). Accent nail is just the Cosmetic Arts by itself.

Kleancolor Concrete, a one-coater, with Kleancolor Yogurt Raisins on the accent nail.

Maya Cosmetics Big Chief, two coats. The glitter was a little sparse but other than that it had a great formula.

20140226-184231.jpg

And finally, Misa High Brow, a gorgeous vampy purple shimmer with a satin-matte finish. On my rarely-seen right hand:

On my usual hand, with topcoat:
