Picture Polish New York, Ornate, and stamping

Here are two gorgeous Picture Polishes, New York and Ornate!

picturepolish_newyork_ornate3

New York is a rich rose pink scattered holo and Ornate is a plum purple scattered holo with medium golden hex glitter and small fuchsia glitter.

I stamped them with Colour Alike A Juicy Tangerine and an image from It Girl plate 103.

Happy Halloween!

Here are some Halloween nails featuring two Pretty and Polished dusty cremes! I started with two coats plus top coat of In The Buff, a mustard yellow with the tiny dusty speckles characteristic of this collection. This first Ott lite photo is the most colour accurate; in the other flash photos it appears more orangey than in real life.

With flash:

I then sponged on a gradient using the orange polish from the dusty cremes collection, called CD 255,165.

Finally I added some Halloween stamping using Kleancolor Metallic Black and Bundle Monster plate BM-H08. They went on a little patchy, but I’ll just say they’re ghostly bats and cats and eyes!

LA Girl Allure, Orly Ablaze, Black Dahlia Lacquer Fuchsia Flower, and stamping

Here’s a kind of skittley mani, due to a comparison I wanted to do. It started out as LA Girl Allure with an accent nail of Black Dahlia Lacquer Fuchsia Flower, but then I switched my index nail to Orly Ablaze since I wanted to see how it compared to Allure.

lagirl_allure_orly_ablaze_blackdahlia_fuchsiaflower

Ablaze is more orange, while Allure is more coral, and of course they have different shimmer as well; Orly’s gold shimmer is larger flecks while the LA Girl’s is very fine.

lagirl_allure_orly_ablaze_blackdahlia_fuchsiaflower3

Fuchsia Flower has blue glass flecks in it, which aren’t showing up very well on the nail in these pics but you can see clearly in the bottle below.

lagirl_allure_orly_ablaze_blackdahlia_fuchsiaflower2

I stamped on the mani using Fingerpaints Minimalistic Mauve (over the coral/orange nails) and Picturesque Purple (over Fuchsia Flower), and plate Hehe-040.

Picture Polish Autumn and comparisons

Since it’s the first day of fall here in the northern hemisphere, I thought it would be a good day to post Picture Polish Autumn.

picturepolish_autumn_flash2

Autumn is a burnt orange jelly based scattered holo that was released this summer. I used two coats, no topcoat here. It has a smooth jelly base, leaving a little bit of visible nail line. These first two photos are with flash.

picturepolish_autumn_flash

In the shade:

picturepolish_autumn_shade

I wanted to compare Autumn to LA Girl Electric Coral, another orange scattered holo jelly. Here is Electric Coral in the bottle next to Autumn.  I also added an orange Pretty and Polished shade, Crush, to the comparison.

picturepolish_autumn_lagirl_electriccoral

Thumb to pinkie in the photos below: Picture Polish Autumn, LA Girl Electric Coral, Autumn, Pretty and Polished Crush, Autumn. Each two coats plus top coat here, except for Crush which is three coats plus top coat (Crush dries slightly matte, hence the addition of top coat to everything).

picturepolish_autumn_lagirl_electriccoral_prettyandpolished_crush2

The LA Girl is darker and redder with coarser/denser holo particles. Crush is totally different, much yellower and with much more subtle and finer holo particles.

I realized I had just gotten another polish that would be good to compare to Electric Coral, that being Glitter Gal Dorothy’s Revenge. Here it is in the bottle next to Electric Coral.

lagirl_electriccoral_glittergal_dorothy

Here is the same comparison as before but with Dorothy’s Revenge instead of Crush on the ring finger.

picturepolish_autumn_lagirl_electriccoral_glittergal_dorothy3

Left to right: LA Girl Electric Coral, Picture Polish Autumn, Glitter Gal Dorothy’s Revenge, Autumn. I used three coats of Dorothy’s Revenge (plus topcoat).

picturepolish_autumn_lagirl_electriccoral_glittergal_dorothy2

In the bottle the Glitter Gal looks redder than the LA Girl, but on the nail it actually looks slightly oranger. The Glitter Gal is more sheer, meant to be a topper or a sheer jelly, so this makes sense. It’s kind of like a sheerer, less dense (in terms of holo particles) version of the LA Girl. They both lean more towards red/coral than the Picture Polish (as expected, given their names!).

❤ orange!

Polished by KPT Dichromate and stamping

Dichromate is a thermal polish from Polished by KPT, shifting from yellow when warm to orange when cold. It has lots of silver shimmer in it giving a foil effect. Shown in various degrees/various finger combinations of warm/cold.

A few odds and ends

A few random things, some of them pretty old photos! In reverse chronological order…

China Glaze Metro-pollen-tin, three coats plus top coat, taken with flash. Love this yellow-orange!

chinaglaze_metropollentin_flash2

IndiePolish Spring Lilac, two coats, plus two coats topcoat (the formula was a little thick so the glitters got a bit lumpy).

indiepolish_springlilac4

indiepolish_springlilac3

China Glaze Ray-diant layered over black.

OPI Do You Think I’m Tex-y with a jelly sandwich accent nail. I *think* the iridescent glitter in the jelly sandwich was Butter London Tart With a Heart but I’m not 100% positive!

Maya Cosmetics Hex and Pretty Serious Martian Sea

I have some swatches and manis from last year that I still haven’t posted; here is one of them! Shown under Ott Lite:

mayahex_prettyseriousmartiansea_ott

The olive green is Hex from the now-defunct Maya Cosmetics, and the orangey-brown brick colour is Pretty Serious Martian Sea. Two coats each. Sunlight:

mayahex_prettyseriousmartiansea

Shade:

mayahex_prettyseriousmartiansea_shade

They both have great colour-shifting shimmer, especially Martian Sea which shifts from gold through to blue at an extreme angle. Ott lite:

Black Dahlia Lacquer Dandelion Fields

This beauty is Black Dahlia Lacquer Dandelion Fields. I think it’s my favourite of the six BDL polishes I have so far! It’s a muted coral-leaning orange holo with pinkish-copper flecks.

blackdahlialacquer_dandelionfields_ott2

This is two coats plus top coat, shown under Ott Lite. I found the formula slightly thick but not difficult to apply.

blackdahlialacquer_dandelionfields_ott

Under warm halogen light it looks a bit more yellow than it really is:

There was no sun when I swatched it, but there was the following day when I was wearing it as a mani. Here it is in the sun. The accent nail has a layer of Indigo Bananas Hay Ride, one of the new multichrome flakies (which are amazing!)

This last photo was taken on the bus, sorry for the weird reflections! But it shows off the accent nail better than the full sun shot. 🙂

Zoya Autumn and Comparison

Zoya Autumn is from last fall’s Ignite collection. It’s a great metallic orange-copper base with sparkly gold shimmer flecks. Two coats plus top coat.

Little Wu kept photobombing me. ❤

Indirect light:

zoya_autumn_partshade

I compared Autumn to four other shades: OPI Bronzed to Perfection (2 coats), which has more of a creme base with added shimmer, Deborah Lippmann Phoenix Rising (3 coats), which has small bronze, pink, and greenish-gold glass flecks in a (I think) clear base, Sparitual Rusted Lux (3 coats), a rusty red jelly base with heavy gold glass fleck, and Sparitual Conduit (3 coats), a brownish jelly base with the same gold glass flecks. The differences show best in the shade and artificial light photos.
