Some Zoya Polishes and a Seche Vive Review

I received a bottle of Seche Vive “Instant Gel Effect” top coat to review from the folks at Nail Polish Canada. 🙂 I thought I’d do a post on my favourite use for Seche Vive: smoothing out texture polishes to make them glossy! Here it is over Zoya’s new pixie dust, Juniper!

IMG_20181020_185807

I find it works best when you let the texture polish dry (or mostly dry), then add a layer of Gelous (from Sally Beauty), followed by the Sèche Vive. (Maybe two layers of Gelous for a really stubborn textured polish!)

Unlike Seche Vite which needs to go over wet polish, Vive is supposed to be used over dry(er) polish. So I let the Gelous dry for a couple minutes before adding the Seche Vive.

And here is an older mani with Zoya Saint and Alice, where Alice has been topcoated using the Gelous/Sèche Vive combo.

Thor in the next pic!

One caveat, the instructions say to put Sèche Vive over dry polish, but the reason I said dry(er) above is that I find it works best over semi-dry, but not fully dry polish. At least, when I tried to put a second layer of it over itself on Zoya Saint, this wrinkling happened:

So, I’m not positive if that was because it was dry before I applied more, or if Sèche Vive just doesn’t like going on top of itself!

One last pic, this is Zoya Roxy with Kissy on the tips, all smoothed with Sèche Vive. In addition to texture polishes, it does a great job on regular glitters that tend to be a bit gritty!

All that to say, although I don’t use it with every mani, I really like the Sèche Vive gel effect and it’s my go-to for smoothing glitters and textures!

Indigo Bananas Blue Rose

Companion post to yesterday’s, on my other hand I did the opposite version of the mani – Indigo Bananas Blue Rose with a needle marbled accent using Cherry Pie. Thermal polishes with colour shifting “unicorn pee” pigment. Two coats except on the accent nail. Again, probably should have used three coats since there are some bald spots visible in the warm state… Pics in various different lighting (and temperature)!

Happy Pi Day!

For Pi Day I stamped over A England Whispering  Waves using Hehe plate Hehe-053 and Colour Alike “a Venus”. Only had time to do a couple of nails with the Pi-themed stamping plate…

Here is Whispering Waves on its own; two coats plus top coat.

Pretty Serious Pookie and stamping

Happy New Year! This beautiful, bright blue polish is Pookie from the Pretty Serious Well Meaning But Ultimately Quite Awkward Pet Names collection!

prettyserious_pookie2

Two coats plus top coat, great formula! Love this unique shade of turquoise blue!

prettyserious_pookie

Now, Pookie is one of the nicknames  of my cat Possum – actually, The Lady-Pookie is her full nickname. Because Pookie was a nickname of one of my parents’ cats (may he rest in peace) who was an orange tabby, and Possum is also an orange tabby but a female orange tabby.  I tried to take a “my nails and my cat” pic here but she wasn’t too thrilled with the flash!

prettyserious_pookie_possum_flash

I stamped over Pookie using Kleancolor Metallic Orange and these cute little roly-poly cats that remind me of Possum, from Hehe plate Hehe-023!

Here’s Possum still at the top of that cat tree, still not looking too thrilled!

Different Dimension Pluto is Still a Planet To Me, Pretty and Polished Weather the Storm, and a comparison

Different Dimension Pluto is Still a Planet to Me is a denim-blue polish with gold fleck shimmer. I used three coats plus top coat.

differentdimension_plutoisstillaplanet_prettyandpolished_weatherthestorm4

On my ring finger is Pretty and Polished Weather the Storm, a greyed blue dusty creme. Two coats plus top coat for this one.

I wanted to compare these two blues to Zoya Skylar.

prettyandpolished_weatherthestorm_zoya_skylar

Skylar is on my thumb below. Three coats plus top coat; the formula was a little thin. The photo is unfortunately a little overexposed.

differentdimension_plutoisstillaplanet_prettyandpolished_weatherthestorm_zoya_skylar2

As you can see the base of Skylar is similar to Weather the Storm but it’s  even more of a greyed, faded shade of blue. The shimmer particles are smaller glass fleck than those in Pluto, and are silvery/multicolour in tone. Pluto is the brightest blue of the three.

Here is a photo of Skylar on my thumb, better showing the tiny multicoloured glass fleck.

Ellagee Zaldrizes and Mhysa

These two polishes are from Ellagee’s Fire Made Flesh collection, and they come with these cool dragon claw rings around the bottle tops.

I used french tip guides to make half-moons and applied Mhysa, a blue with gold glass fleck that appears a bit green through the blue, overtop.

I used two coats of Mhysa followed by a final layer of topcoat.

Kleancolor Neon Pink and Starlight Polish Ever Blue

Here’s a layering combo I did using Kleancolor Neon Pink and Starlight Polish Ever Blue, a glass-fleck topper that shifts from blue to pink. Two coats of the Kleancolor followed by one coat of Ever Blue and topcoat. With flash:

Eat Sleep Polish Supernova, Jupiter Grapes, and Planet Pluto

Today I have three Eat Sleep Polish holos with colour-shifting glass flecks to show you. First, Supernova with an accent nail of Jupiter Grapes. Supernova is a fuchsia/plum sort of shade with blue-to-fuchsia glass flecks. Jupiter Grapes is a slightly blue-toned purple with similar blue-to-fuchsia glass flecks, although they don’t appear as prominent as in Supernova. Under Ott lite:

On my right hand I did the opposite using Supernova as the accent and Jupiter Grapes for most of the nails. With flash:

Later I decided to compare Jupiter Grapes and Planet Pluto, which is an indigo-toned blue, again with glass flecks that mostly appear blue in this polish. Here is Planet Pluto with a ring finger accent of Jupiter Grapes, in sunlight:
