Polished by KPT Dichromate and stamping

Dichromate is a thermal polish from Polished by KPT, shifting from yellow when warm to orange when cold. It has lots of silver shimmer in it giving a foil effect. Shown in various degrees/various finger combinations of warm/cold.

I stamped over it using Kleancolor Metallic Mango and a pattern from Messy Mansion plate MM-13. I really like how it turned out!

The Great Evolving Black Dahlia Lacquer Manicure/Comparison

Warning, long and picture heavy post! I had a Black Dahlia Lacquer mani that just kept evolving! Except where noted, these were all two coats plus top coat.

Part 1, left hand – Striped Peonies with Rose Petals, under Ottlite:

With flash:

blackdahlialacquer_stripedpeonies_rosepetals_flash3

These two have a similar crelly finish with tons of colour-shifting glass fleck shimmer.

Part 1, right hand, Rose Petals with Striped Peonies, under Ottlite:

With flash:

I decided to then pair Striped Peonies (on the right) with 90 in November (on the left) to do a little purple comparison – 90 in November is much warmer in tone and has a foil finish with some added glass flecks:

Part 3, left hand, Blooming Sunflowers with 90 in November, in sunlight:

Part 3, right hand, 90 in November with Blooming Sunflowers, stamped with Fingerpaints Picturesque Purple and plate Pueen 08, in sunlight:

I then wanted to compare Blooming Sunflowers to Strawberry Fields; here they are in the bottles, not as close in colour as I’d thought – Blooming Sunflowers leans a lot more toward red, and its gold flakes are much larger and more prominent:

blackdahlialacquer_strawberryfields_bloomingsunflowers_bottles

Part 4, left hand, Blooming Sunflowers with Strawberry Fields. I used three coats of Strawberry Fields here, just because I smudged it a bit after the second. In sunlight:

blackdahlialacquer_bloomingsunflowers_strawberryfields2

blackdahlialacquer_bloomingsunflowers_strawberryfields

I didn’t take a picture of the right hand for Part 4.

Since Strawberry Fields was a lot pinker than Blooming Sunflowers, I then decided to compare it to Rose Petals:

blackdahlialacquer_rosepetals_strawberryfields_bottles

Rose Petals is a cooler pink, with pink shifting glass fleck shimmer, whereas the shimmer in Strawberry Fields is all tiny gold flakes and is less prominent once on the nail.

For the last version of the mani, I did an ombré/skittle-type thing, adding both Rose Petals and Dandelion Explosion, a coral crelly with peach and coral matte glitters, to the previous version. So here we have Part 5, index to pinkie: Dandelion Explosion (three coats – it’s also the bottle I’m holding), Blooming Sunflowers, Strawberry Fields, and Rose Petals:

Zoya Zuza, Wednesday, and comparisons

I should have posted this ages ago, but then I lost the photos of the nail wheel comparisons… or maybe I forgot to take the photos, I don’t know! So I took new ones recently, but they aren’t exactly colour-accurate… Ah well, I’m posting them anyway! 😀

Zoya Zuza

Here is Zoya Zuza, a beautiful shimmery turquoise. Two coats, and the formula was a little thick, according to my notes. I love Zuza.

Zoya Zuza

Zoya Wednesday

Zoya Wednesday, a slightly dusty turquoise/minty/tiffany blue creme. Two coats, three on my ridgey ring finger. The formula on this one was a little thin.

Zoya Wednesday

And here are the comparisons! The photos are not colour accurate; they photographed a bit too green and dark, which you can see by comparing Wednesday (3:00 position on the left wheel) to the swatch photos above. So keeping that in mind, the pic can give an idea of how similar they are to other polishes in the same colour family. Zuza is directly next to Wednesday on the other wheel, at the 9:00 position on that wheel. Should have numbered the polishes on the wheels, sorry about that…

Zoya Ziv, Orly Flare and comparisons

I’ve got a couple of gold polishes from last year for you today, along with a comparison!

First is Zoya Ziv, a foil finish combining fairly neutral gold flecks with warmer, brassy gold flecks.

Zoya Ziv

It’s a bit sheer, so this was three coats. It has a nice foil formula, although it did threaten to drip down the brush stem on me.

Zoya Ziv

Next is Orly Flare, a more metallic finish warm gold shade.

Orly Flare

This is also three coats, but it was a bit less sheer than Ziv. Also was a bit drippy down the brush stem (something about the air that day??).

Orly Flare

The comparison shows three coats each of Ziv, Flare, Sparitual Solstice (which is identical to Orly Glitz and Glamour), and OPI Goldeneye.

Index to pinkie: Zoya Ziv, Orly Flare, Sparitual Solstice, OPI Goldeneye.

Index to pinkie: Zoya Ziv, Orly Flare, Sparitual Solstice, OPI Goldeneye.

Goldeneye and Solstice are the most similar of the four, but Goldeneye is more sheer.

Index to pinkie: Zoya Ziv, Orly Flare, Sparitual Solstice, OPI Goldeneye.

Index to pinkie: Zoya Ziv, Orly Flare, Sparitual Solstice, OPI Goldeneye.

Flare is fairly similar in colour to those two, but not in finish.

Zoya FeiFei and comparison

Today I have another polish from last fall to show you! Zoya FeiFei from the Diva collection.

Zoya FeiFei

FeiFei is a multicoloured foily fleck polish that is predominantly blue, with hints of gold among others. I love this type of foily flecks.

Zoya FeiFei

Three coats are shown, and the formula was great.

One coat over black, in overcast natural light. It doesn’t really look much different over black, just, well, darker.

I compared FeiFei to Zoya Crystal, another blue with gold.

Zoya FeiFei and Crystal

Left: FeiFei, right: Crystal.

Three coats of each polish.

Zoya FeiFei and Crystal

Pinkie to index: Crystal, FeiFei, Crystal, FeiFei.

Crystal is a lighter, more true blue than FeiFei, and only has blue and gold flecks. The flecks are slightly bigger in Crystal as well. FeiFei is murkier in comparison due to the multi coloured flecks giving off an overall greyish look.

I’ve got some more Soulstice Spa swatches for you today! 😀

Nairobi: metallic bronze, two coats. Also dries fast and has a great formula.

Madrid: candy apple red jelly. It has a smooth formula, and is even okay at one coat for a sheer wash of cherry. Two coats in the photos. I swatched this without base coat, and it stained pink a little bit, so be sure to use a good base coat!

Lisbon: a metallic navy with a good consistency. I used two coats, and it bubbled a little as it dried because I used a too thick second coat. I think three thin coats would have been better – I used three thin coats on my thumb, and it didn’t have any bubbles.

OPI Goldeneye and Comparison

Happy solstice! 😀 I thought I would post a sunny colour to celebrate.

OPI Goldeneye

This is OPI Goldeneye, which I used in a couple of previous nail art manicures. I love gold polishes and this one is a great one, full of irregular foily flecks.

OPI Goldeneye

The swatch shows three coats; the polish is sheer but has a good formula.

OPI Goldeneye

I did a comparison of Goldeneye to a few other yellow gold polishes. First, here’s a bottle comparison of Goldeneye to Orly Glitz & Glamour. Goldeneye has more of an orange/copper tone to it than Glitz & Glamour.

OPI Goldeneye and Orly Glitz & Glamour

Top to bottom: OPI Goldeneye (3 coats), Orly Glitz & Glamour (2 coats), Sparitual Solstice (2 coats), Wet n Wild The Gold and The Beautiful (3 coats).

OPI Goldeneye, Orly Glitz & Glamour, Sparitual Solstice, Wet n Wild The Gold and the Beautiful

OPI Goldeneye, Orly Glitz & Glamour, Sparitual Solstice, Wet n Wild The Gold and the Beautiful

Glitz & Glamour and Solstice are yellower than Goldeneye and are dupes to one another; I’d guess they’re probably the exact same polish in fact, since Orly and Sparitual are made by the same company.

OPI Goldeneye, Orly Glitz & Glamour, Sparitual Solstice, Wet n Wild The Gold and the Beautiful

The Wet n Wild polish is the sheerest of these shades. Instead of a foil it’s more like sparse glass flecks. At three coats here, it’s still quite sheer. I like to use this one in frankens when I want to add some gold flecks!

Io, Saturnalia!

It’s the first day of Saturnalia! 😀 Thought I’d show the end result of my last mani for the holiday nail art challenge.

China Glaze Gold Fusion, No Miss Sand, and OPI Goldeneye, with Hanukkah and Saturnalia accent nails

The menorah actually lasted all 8 days of Hanukkah, and I “lit” another candle on it each night using my gel pens. I also kept the middle finger with the sun, although the nail had a break on the side so don’t mind its appearance!

China Glaze Gold Fusion, No Miss Sand, and OPI Goldeneye, with Hanukkah and Saturnalia accent nails

On the other fingers, I have China Glaze Gold Fusion, a golden magnetic polish that I used a wavy-lines magnet on. Overtop of that I added No Miss Sand Glitter, a gold glitter that’s actually in the shape of tiny rectangles. Then, over that, I added a very thin layer of OPI Goldeneye for a little bit more of a yellow-gold tint.
