Zoya Zuza, Wednesday, and comparisons

I should have posted this ages ago, but then I lost the photos of the nail wheel comparisons… or maybe I forgot to take the photos, I don’t know! So I took new ones recently, but they aren’t exactly colour-accurate… Ah well, I’m posting them anyway! 😀

Zoya Zuza

Here is Zoya Zuza, a beautiful shimmery turquoise. Two coats, and the formula was a little thick, according to my notes. I love Zuza.

Zoya Zuza

Zoya Wednesday

Zoya Wednesday, a slightly dusty turquoise/minty/tiffany blue creme. Two coats, three on my ridgey ring finger. The formula on this one was a little thin.

Zoya Wednesday

And here are the comparisons! The photos are not colour accurate; they photographed a bit too green and dark, which you can see by comparing Wednesday (3:00 position on the left wheel) to the swatch photos above. So keeping that in mind, the pic can give an idea of how similar they are to other polishes in the same colour family. Zuza is directly next to Wednesday on the other wheel, at the 9:00 position on that wheel. Should have numbered the polishes on the wheels, sorry about that…

More Soulstice Swatches

I’ve got some more Soulstice Spa swatches for you today! 😀

Venice: gold foil, two coats. It dries fast, and has an excellent formula.

Nairobi: metallic bronze, two coats. Also dries fast and has a great formula.

Madrid: candy apple red jelly. It has a smooth formula, and is even okay at one coat for a sheer wash of cherry. Two coats in the photos. I swatched this without base coat, and it stained pink a little bit, so be sure to use a good base coat!

Lisbon: a metallic navy with a good consistency. I used two coats, and it bubbled a little as it dried because I used a too thick second coat. I think three thin coats would have been better – I used three thin coats on my thumb, and it didn’t have any bubbles.

Soulstice Kiev, Hana, and Berlin

Today I have three more swatches to show you in my project to photograph all my Soulstice Spa polishes.

Soulstice Kiev

Kiev is a burgundy jelly polish with a hint of a brown tone.

Soulstice Kiev

This is three coats, since I found I got a little bit of cuticle drag at two coats (maybe I just didn’t wait long enough between coats).

Soulstice Kiev

In low light it can look quite dark:

Soulstice Kiev

Then I added one generous coat of Hana overtop of Kiev.

Soulstice Hana over Soulstice Kiev

Hana is a very sheer iridescent flake polish, so I didn’t bother swatching it on its own.

soulstice_kiev_hana2

The tiny flakes reflect all sorts of colours; here over Kiev the overall effect is a mainly blueish shimmer.

Soulstice Hana over Soulstice Kiev

Next I have Berlin, a very dark vampy purple that has a semi-jelly formula. It’s dark enough that it often looks almost black.

Soulstice Berlin

The formula was very similar to that of Kiev.

Soulstice Berlin

I’m actually not sure whether this swatch was two or three coats; apparently I forgot to write it down.

Soulstice Berlin

Lastly, here is a comparison between Berlin, Kleancolor Black (one coat), and Kiev to show the relative depth of the colours.

Soulstice Spa San Francisco and Beauty Without Cruelty Tangerine

I still have a lot of swatches and manis from last year to post! (Ah, my nails were a lot longer then!) Today I have a comparison between two lovely oranges.

Soulstice Spa San Francisco

This is Soulstice San Francisco, an orange semi-jelly that I love!

Soulstice Spa San Francisco

The swatch shows two coats. The formula was nice and smooth.

Soulstice Spa San Francisco

Next I have the comparison with Beauty Without Cruelty Tangerine. I found that they look more similar in the photo than they did in real life. But you can still see that Tangerine is a more opaque creme, and the shade of orange is a bit dustier. San Francisco is more of a burnt orange shade.

Pinky to index: Tangerine, San Francisco, Tangerine, San Francisco

The comparison shows two coats of each polish.

And finally, swatches of Beauty Without Cruelty Tangerine on its own. Three coats in the swatches.

Zoya Rory, Kimber, and Comparisons

Today I have another one of my straggling summer Zoya posts – the two pink foily polishes from the Surf collection! (Look at how long my nails were – I really liked this length/shape! ;))

Zoya Rory

First is Rory, an awesome cool-toned, lilac-leaning bubblegum pink foil polish! Quite unique, I love it! This was two coats. The formula was a little thick but easy to apply.

Zoya Rory

And next, Kimber, a darker red-toned warm fuchsia pink with golden shimmer.

Zoya Kimber

I’d say that Kimber’s finish is somewhere between foil and glass-fleck, definitely not a true foil like Rory.

Zoya Kimber

This is also two coats of Kimber, whose formula was similar to Rory’s, although slightly thinner. Neither had any issues with application.

Zoya Kimber

And now, some nail wheel comparisons of any and all polishes I had that were remotely similar! The first photo is indoors near my Ott light, the second in direct sun; neither is that great lighting-wise but I hope each can make up for the other’s deficiencies in showing the colours! Kimber and Rory are directly across from one another at the point where the two wheels are closest to each other.

Left wheel, clockwise: Soulstice Kauai, Milani Photo Flash, Milani In a Flash, Kleancolor Metallic Pink, Manglaze Lesbihonest, Milani Golden Girl, Milani Gold Digger, Milani Pink Out Loud, Zoya Kimber, China Glaze Strawberry Fields, Essence Glamorous Life, China Glaze Endurance, Zoya Starla, LA Colors Coral Reef.

Right wheel, counterclockwise from top: LA Girl Rockstar Scandal, China Glaze No Way José, Orly Rose Radiance, LA Girl Pink Steel, Zoya Rory, Pop Beauty Ruby Metal, Orly Preamp, LA Girl Color Addict Euphoria, Milani Gold Violetta.

As you can see, Rory is unique even among the other pink foils I have, and Kimber is fairly similar to China Glaze Strawberry Fields. Strawberry Fields is a bit lighter and less red though, and its shimmer is less dense.

Holiday Nail Art Challenge Week 2: Gifts!

It’s week 2 of Nail Polish Canada’s Holiday Nail Art Challenge! The theme for this week is gifts! 😀

OPI Goldeneye and Kleancolor Metallic Red

And here is my gift manicure!

OPI Goldeneye and Kleancolor Metallic Red

The base for the gold gifts is OPI Goldeneye from their new James Bond collection. This is three coats of this yellow-gold foil, which is a little sheer, but has a great formula.

OPI Goldeneye and Kleancolor Metallic Red

The base for the red accent nail gift is Kleancolor Metallic Red, which is a very pigmented red foil with an excellent formula. One coat was nearly enough, but I used two for good measure.

OPI Goldeneye and Kleancolor Metallic Red

The ribbon wrapping around the gifts is striping tape, and the bows are homemade. I used a plastic mylar wrapper that a package of nail wheels came in, and cut out very thin strips. I twisted the strips into bows and glued them together using basecoat (cutting out and gluing the strips was the hard part – it took a while to get them half decent!).

OPI Goldeneye and Kleancolor Metallic Red

Once they were ready, I painted the red bows with Metallic Red, and the gold one with Goldeneye layered over Soulstice Spa Venice, an opaque gold foil, since Goldeneye is sheer. I fixed them into place on my nails using topcoat.

OPI Goldeneye and Kleancolor Metallic Red

I’m really happy with how these turned out! I hope you all like them too. Unfortunately, with the bows it’s a one-day-only manicure though; this is what I woke up to this morning:

Gifts - unwrapped!

Gifts – unwrapped!

Don’t forget to visit the contest’s week 2 page here and vote for your favourite! Voting for this week is open through to Wednesday, December 5. 🙂

And since the best gift of all is seeing your loved ones happy and healthy, here are some pics of three of my boys checking things out while I was photographing the mani! From left, Thor (his nose, anyway!), Fred, and Julius! <3<3<3

Soulstice Spa Troy

I have another Soulstice Spa polish to show you today! This one is called Troy.

Soulstice Spa Troy

It’s a charcoal shimmery polish with a weak scattered holo effect.

Soulstice Spa Troy

It has a quick-drying formula that applies best with a light touch, using somewhat thick coats and not going over the same spot more than once. Using that technique, I didn’t really have any problems with the application (although the photos are showing a bit of a bald spot on the side of my index that I didn’t notice in real life!).

Soulstice Spa Troy

The photos show two coats of Troy. These are true holo particles, not glitter, so it’s smooth even without topcoat.

Soulstice Spa Troy

The next two photos are in the shade.

Soulstice Spa Troy

Soulstice Spa Troy

And this last photo is under the Ott light. Subtle in terms of holo, but a really nice quick-drying charcoal!

Soulstice Spa Troy

Edit: Prompted by the comment from Derya, here’s a comparison of Troy to OPI My Private Jet (most recent version that is still available in stores) and Color Club Revvvolution. 🙂 (Photos taken under my Ott light this morning.)

Color Club Revvvolution, Soulstice Troy, OPI My Private Jet (scattered holo with reddish-brown flash version)

Color Club Revvvolution, Soulstice Troy, OPI My Private Jet (scattered holo with reddish-brown flash version)

As you can see My Private Jet, the brownish-charcoal scattered holo version, that is, is darker than Troy and has a reddish-brown shimmer flash to it. Revvvolution is more of a true grey charcoal with none of the brown that the other two have.

Color Club Revvvolution, Soulstice Troy, OPI My Private Jet (scattered holo with reddish-brown flash version)

Color Club Revvvolution, Soulstice Troy, OPI My Private Jet (scattered holo with reddish-brown flash version)

These swatches have two coats of each polish. In addition to being the lightest in colour, Troy was also the sheerest of the three. Revvvolution is the most opaque; it’s nearly a one-coater. It’s also different in that its holo is more linear rather than scattered. My Private Jet’s scattered holo is a bit more apparent than Troy’s.

Soulstice Spa Kyoto

Soulstice Kyoto is a shade that looks pretty unassuming in the bottle, but really impressed me on the nail! It’s a pastel peachy pink creme, so I expected it would be nice but boring. Not boring though, in my opinion!

Soulstice Spa Kyoto

It had a good formula for a pastel; I applied generous coats with a light touch and there were only minimal streaks during the process. Two coats were enough, although I used three on my ring finger because of its ridges (I didn’t use base coat before swatching this).

Soulstice Spa Kyoto

Rather than being a nude sort of pastel peach/pink, this one is pretty bright and stark (at least on my skin tone!) which makes it really interesting to me!

Soulstice Spa Kyoto

Love it!

And now, as an added bonus, prepare yourselves for the cutest fluffy cat belly you’ve ever seen…

Soulstice Spa St. Tropez

A quick post featuring a great nude polish! This is St. Tropez by Soulstice Spa, a yellow-toned light beige with pearly shimmer. This shade was released in their spring/summer collection earlier this year.

Soulstice Spa St. Tropez

I found the polish a little sheer, but smooth and even at just one coat. The photos show three thick coats, although I could have gotten away with two if I had used a ridge-filling basecoat underneath. The formula is slightly thick, but it self-levels pretty well.

Soulstice Spa St. Tropez

I really love this colour, and was impressed with the nice formula! Here it is in the shade:
