Cult Nails I Got Distracted

Today I’ve got another polish from Coco’s Untamed collection by Cult Nails. The polishes in this collection were all designed by Coco, the daughter of Cult Nails’ founder!

I Got Distracted is a black jelly with small holo glitter and medium green glitter. Maria of Cult Nails shared the family joke behind the name of this shade – “I got distracted” is Coco’s classic excuse for anything she was supposed to do but didn’t, used so often that it just had to make an appearance among the polish names.

Shown are two coats; the formula was fairly thick but I found it easy to apply using thick coats. I almost didn’t need the second coat, as this polish is quite pigmented. It dries gritty from all the glitter so a good thick topcoat is in order. In these sun photos, I had on two layers of Cult Nails topcoat: one that I applied right after the polish, and another the following morning. The sun photos were also taken with my phone, which probably has something to do with the reason that the watermark ended up going on sideways! haha!

The rest of the photos only have one layer of topcoat and were taken just after finishing the mani. In the shade:

Picture Polish Pshiiit

I recently learned that Australian brand Picture Polish is vegan-friendly, so of course I had to buy some of their polishes to try them out!

This beauty is a brand-new shade called Pshiiit, as it was a collaboration with French web-store owner and blogger Camille of Pshiiit. Picture Polish recently did several collaboration shades with e-tailers in their distribution network, and I’ll also have swatches of a couple of the others soon.

Pshiiit is a teal jelly with flakies and lots of fine gold shimmer as well as some microglitter thrown in. Gorgeous! I recommend clicking on the photos to see all the detail of the finish in the larger versions!

I found the formula had a little of the thin-yet-thick thing going on, but didn’t have trouble with it and a second, thick coat evened everything out. This could easily be worn as a layer over a creme polish for those who don’t like visible nail lines.

I Won a Giveaway!

Not too long ago the awesome Lauren and Loren at Lacquer and Lashes held a giveaway with an amazing prize… And I won! 😀

The prize was two bottles of discontinued nail polish, OPI Opening Night Gold and China Glaze Emerald Sparkle!! I had wanted Opening Night Gold for ages, but figured it was something I would never see in person since I wasn’t ready to pay crazy ebay prices for it! So needless to say, I was very excited to win the giveaway. Thank you so much, Lauren and Loren!!!

Opening Night Gold is an oldie, from the 2003 Holiday on Broadway collection. It’s a gorgeous golden beige linear holo!

The swatches show three coats. The formula is thin and smooth. It’s from before the switch by OPI to “Big 3 Free” polishes, so it does contain those ingredients. Which personally doesn’t really bother me; I try not to huff my polishes while applying them either way! 😉 Opening Night Gold dries very quickly, like a lot of similar holographic polishes do!

There’s not much more to say except I LOVE THIS! 😉

The other polish, China Glaze’s Emerald Sparkle, is not as hard to find as the OPI but is also discontinued. Apparently this was first released in China Glaze’s 2008 holiday season collection, and there are two versions in existence. This one is the “good” version! 😉

Shown are two coats of this deep green jelly with green glitter. It dries a little dull and rough on its own due to all the glitter, so a nice thick topcoat is in order for this one! The first two photos show it with topcoat added.

These last two are pre-topcoat; if you click on the photos to see the large versions you can see the difference in texture.

Both of these polishes are awesome and I highly recommend picking them up if you should happen to run across them! Emerald Sparkle can also usually be found for a reasonable price on ebay.

Cult Nails Deal With It

This lovely super-bright lime green with golden yellow shimmer is Deal With It, from Coco’s Untamed Collection by Cult Nails. The collection was designed by Coco, the thirteen year old daughter of Cult Nails’ creator. I’ll have reviews of the other shades coming later!

The formula on this one is a bit sheer; here I used two coats but three would be better for those who don’t like visible nail line. The formula is a little bit thick, but not problematic to apply.

As you can see it dries to a satin finish; there must be some neon pigment in it which is not surprising! At any rate, this is an awesome shade!

China Glaze Deviantly Daring and No Plain Jane

I’ve got the first two of six new China Glaze polishes from their New Bohemian collection today! These shades have duochrome to varying degrees, and a metallic finish that’s slightly brushstrokey but not in a bad way, in my humble opinion – I wouldn’t quite call them frost, and I didn’t have trouble getting the brush stokes straight.

I’ll start with No Plain Jane, the purple shade; I was actually a little disappointed with this one since the duochrome didn’t seem as orange as I expected; more of a pinkish-goldenish-copper shade, and the purple can look paler and almost lavender in some lighting. This swatch is three coats, and I found the formula a bit thick and sticky for this kind of polish. First photos are in sunlight:

These next photos are under my Ott Lite:

Next I layered one coat of No Plain Jane over Kleancolor Black. Layered this way, it photographed bluer than it is – it’s definitely more of a red-leaning purple like the first photos showed. Sunlight:

Next is Deviantly Daring; I love this rich teal-blue-green shade! Two coats shown here, and this one had a great formula. Sunlight:

In the shade, if you click to enlarge this photo you can kind of see the fine gold shimmer that gives this polish extra depth; it’s more visible in the bottle than on the nail but is really pretty:

This next photo is under the Ott Lite – I think that bright green flash that you can see near the bottom right of each nail is actually a reflection from the wall with its bright lime-green paint job, so I’m a little hesitant to post this, but I guess I’ll just say that this one isn’t totally accurate of what the polish looks like in real life!

So, one of these two polishes was nice but mainly just “okay” in my opinion, and the other is a definite winner! The other four shades from this collection are on my ever-expanding “to swatch” list!

Glitter Gal Buckled Bronze

I’ve got a gorgeous duochrome from Glitter Gal to show you today! This is one of six new duochromes they recently released, and the lovely Kerry from Glitter Gal gave me the opportunity to review it (thanks, Kerry!). This one is called Buckled Bronze and it’s got a great plum-burgundy-bronze-copper colour shift!

Here it is with the box it comes in. I really like these new Glitter Gal bottles, square and solid and stylish looking – they’ve really done a nice job on their new packaging.

These photos are of one generous coat of Buckled Bronze over one coat of Kleancolor Black; these are sheer duochromes that show their full effect over black (or another very dark colour).

No topcoat here; it dries quite glossy on its own. The formula was thin and smooth, perfect for this sort of layering polish.

These next two photos are with flash in addition to sunlight. Head-on, the flash shows just how nearly purple this polish appears in some lights!

And at more of an angle, the bronze tone becomes prominent:

At extreme angles, the polish even shifts to gold and green. If you click on the full size version of this next photo, you can see all the little multicoloured sparkles along with the gold-green shift – love it!

And here is what the polish looks like on its own – as you can see it’s definitely sheer! Left to right, one, two, three, and four coats of Buckled Bronze. The pinkie with four coats shows how the base of the polish is kind of a smokey taupe colour.

Anyway, as you may have guessed by now, this is a great polish and I love it! The colour scheme is right up my alley. Misa Good to be Green and Comparisons

Good To Be Green is a new apple-green creme polish from Misa’s Hot Summer collection. Since I love this colour, I couldn’t pass it up, although I was sure I already owned a dupe. Turns out I was wrong!

I found the formula a little thin when I tried it; this is two coats, the second somewhat thick. I actually had some pooling due to the thinness of the polish, which is rare for me these days, but in the end it turned out fine, nice and opaque.

I thought this one would be the same as Orly Green Apple, but it turns out not to be. The Orly is on my index, the Misa on my middle finger. As you can see, the Misa is a deeper green; the Orly is several shades lighter. I also applied the Orly in two coats, the second being thick.

I included a couple of other polishes in the comparison to show that they’re basically in a different shade family – OPI Who the Shrek Are You? on my ring finger, and Zoya Mitzi on my pinkie, both much more yellow than Good to Be Green.

Who the Shrek Are You? was also a bit thin (everything seemed to be applying thin that day, and yet it was very hot and humid; I thought I might be in the Twilight Zone…) and I used three coats since it was on my ridgey ring finger.

A shade or two lighter than Who the Shrek Are You?, Zoya Mitzi is a very yellow-based neon lime matte polish; here I added topcoat to it for the sake of the comparison with the other glossy cremes. Mitzi was streaky to apply and prone to dragging, so I used three coats to cover some bald spots and streaks.

This is another comparison that would make a nice ombre mani! I love the progression of these bright green shades.

China Glaze He’s Going in Circles

Just a quick post to show some pics of another great holo; this one is He’s Going in Circles from China Glaze’s (limited edition, unfortunately) Kaleidoscope collection of a few years back. It’s a great minty green scattered holo polish; actually what I would probably call semi-linear since it does give off a somewhat linear rainbow effect made up of scattered sparkles. These photos show two coats with top coat (OPI’s DS topcoat). Nothing to mention about the formula other than it’s one of those formulas of the smooth, perfect and easy to apply holo variety. It’s discontinued but it can often be found on ebay or from blogsales for a not-too-crazy price, generally in the 12-15$ range. Shown in full sun.

Zoya Beach Skittles

Today I have a skittle mani to show you, using the polishes from Zoya’s Beach collection for summer 2012.

Thumb to pinkie are Zoya Reagan, Wednesday, Shelby, Arizona, and Lara. The bottle I’m holding is Zoya Tracie, the only non-creme polish from Beach.

I plan on doing comparison posts for all of these polishes later, so I’m not going to talk much about the formulas right now. These swatches were all two coats, though.

A-England Princess Sabra

Today I have another lovely holo from A-England’s Legend collection to show you!

Princess Sabra is a light golden-green olive shade. It also has some very fine golden shimmer in the base, which you can see in some of the photos (especially in the bottle of the above photo!).

I used 3 coats, but the third was only because I smudged the polish before I could take photos, so I had to add an extra layer to cover it up. Otherwise two coats would have been perfectly fine.

Like the two other A-Englands I have, this one has a great formula and dries very quickly.

Not much more to say; it’s pretty much perfect!

The full name of this polish is “Princess Sabra (Tristam Eyes)”, Tristam being the name of the creator’s cat. It does look like yellow-green cat’s eyes! 🙂
