Nubar Affair and comparisons

Nubar Affair is a teal green jelly with lots of fine gold shimmer particles. I’d say this first (phone) photo is the most colour-accurate; the others seem slightly too blue.

nubar_affair5

I used three coats plus top coat; as you can see there’s still a little visible nail line in certain lights.

I did a comparison to two other similar polishes. Top to bottom in the photo below: Pretty Serious Khepri’s Amulet (two coats), Nubar Affair, NYX Jungle (four coats), Nubar Affair.

prettyserious_kheprisamulet_nubar_affair_nyx_jungle

Khepri’s Amulet is slightly greener than Affair and is more brushstokey with its frostier metallic finish. NYX Jungle is more sheer than Affair, and on the nail its gold shimmer is more distinct from the base.

Indigo Bananas Event Horizon

I found these swatches from a while ago when my nails were nubs so I thought I would post them! This is Indigo Bananas Event Horizon, a mainly teal/turquoise/blue multichrome flakie. Three coats. In late afternoon sun:

Picture Polish Calm and comparisons

Picture Polish Calm is like the turquoise/teal version of Autumn that I posted the other day. Jelly-based light teal blue with Picture Polish’s signature scattered holo flecks, two smooth coats plus top coat used here. Photos with flash.

picturepolish_calm_flash3

picturepolish_calm_flash2

picturepolish_calm_flash

I compared Calm to Picture Polish Lagoon and to LA Girl Teal Dimension. Lagoon and Calm are fairly similar but Lagoon has more creme to its base; as you can see in the bottles this makes it a bit lighter/more turquoise leaning:

picturepolish_calm_lagoon

Top to bottom: LA Girl Teal Dimension (much darker, obviously!), PP Calm, PP Lagoon, PP Calm. With flash:

picturepolish_calm_lagoon_lagirl_tealdimension4

Lagoon shows less visible nail line due to the creme in the base, but it and Calm do have a pretty similar shade on the nail. Lagoon also has the addition of medium size hex glitter in it. Lagoon has always been one of my favourite Picture Polishes and now I’m glad to have both of these! In shade:

Again, top to bottom: LA Girl Teal Dimension, PP Calm, PP Lagoon, PP Calm, and the sun came out for these last two pics:

Black Dahlia Lacquer Swan River Daisy

Black Dahlia Lacquer Swan River Daisy is a turquoise/teal crelly with red-gold-green shifting flakies in it. Two coats plus top coat, great application. Love this polish!

LA Girl Teal Dimension

LA Girl Teal Dimension is from their awesome 3D Hologram collection of jelly-based scattered holos (these are true scattered holos with smooth particles). Two coats. Unfortunately not the greatest photos – all in artificial light, some with, some without flash.

Zoya Zuza, Wednesday, and comparisons

I should have posted this ages ago, but then I lost the photos of the nail wheel comparisons… or maybe I forgot to take the photos, I don’t know! So I took new ones recently, but they aren’t exactly colour-accurate… Ah well, I’m posting them anyway! 😀

Zoya Zuza

Here is Zoya Zuza, a beautiful shimmery turquoise. Two coats, and the formula was a little thick, according to my notes. I love Zuza.

Zoya Zuza

Zoya Wednesday

Zoya Wednesday, a slightly dusty turquoise/minty/tiffany blue creme. Two coats, three on my ridgey ring finger. The formula on this one was a little thin.

Zoya Wednesday

And here are the comparisons! The photos are not colour accurate; they photographed a bit too green and dark, which you can see by comparing Wednesday (3:00 position on the left wheel) to the swatch photos above. So keeping that in mind, the pic can give an idea of how similar they are to other polishes in the same colour family. Zuza is directly next to Wednesday on the other wheel, at the 9:00 position on that wheel. Should have numbered the polishes on the wheels, sorry about that…

Authority Cosmetics Swatches and Review

Today I have four polishes to show you from the relatively-new brand of vegan polishes, Authority Cosmetics. Two cremes, a slight duochrome shimmer, and a glitter topper – let’s get started with the swatches, shall we? 😀

Authority Cosmetics Disco

This great lime green creme is Disco. I used two coats.

Authority Cosmetics Disco

The formula was thick and pigmented and went on without streaks; I was really impressed!

Authority Cosmetics Disco

The glitter topper, I Heart You, has a clear pink base and is filled with small iridescent glitter and pink and red heart-shaped glitter. I applied one thick coat over Disco and wasn’t sure if it would work out with the green and pink layered, but it turned into a really great olive green shade! I think it actually ended up being my favourite combo with I Heart You! A couple of swirls of the brush generally brought out 1-3 hearts from the bottle without trouble, and there was a little placement of hearts involved to get them distributed evenly on the nail.

Authority Cosmetics Disco and I Heart You

The second shade, Paradise, is a medium bright blue creme, also thick and pigmented like Disco. In fact, this swatch shows just one thick coat.

Authority Cosmetics Paradise

I probably should have done two thinner coats instead of one thick, since I ended up getting a few tiny bubbles as it dried, but I wanted to see if it covered in a single layer.

Authority Cosmetics Paradise

The sun had gone away so this next pic is under the Ott lite:

Authority Cosmetics Paradise

Here is one coat of I Heart You over Paradise, turning it a dusty periwinkle. Sorry for the little bald spots in the glitter; I didn’t notice until I took the photos!

Last but certainly not least, the duochrome, Emerald Sky. This is a shimmery green-teal-blue subtle duochrome in a smoky, slightly blue-purple base! (These first photos in natural light are a little too blue, and the later ones under Ott and halogen light are more colour accurate.)

Authority Cosmetics Emerald Sky

The base is sheer to let the shimmer show through, and the formula is thinner than the other polishes. It builds to a nice glowy colour in just two coats though, which is what is shown here.

Here it is again under Ott lite, with a layer of I Heart You on the ring finger:

I also did a comparison with one coat over black versus two coats alone (bottom to top in the photos).

Authority Cosmetics Emerald Sky alone and over black

Applying over black makes the look more opaque and dark, but doesn’t really change much about the colour shift. At an extreme angle, you can see the shimmer shifts more to blue.

This last photo is under halogen light.

Authority Cosmetics is available on their website here. They have just 10 colours so far, but if they’re all like the ones I’ve reviewed here, the quality is great! I have to say I am impressed with these! 🙂

Disclosure: The polishes in this post were provided for review. Opinions expressed are my own honest opinions.

Maya Cosmetics Nefarious Aquarius

I have an indie polish to show you today, from the brand Maya Cosmetics which I was excited to learn states on their website that their polishes are vegan friendly!

Maya Cosmetics Nefarious Aquarius

This is Nefarious Aquarius, a teal/turquoise holo polish! Photo above is with flash, and the following ones are under Ott Lite.

Maya Cosmetics Nefarious Aquarius

Two coats, no complaints about the formula! It’s all around just a great polish!

And finally, not the greatest photo, but here is how it looked outdoors in the sunlight:

Jordana Wild Shore and Yellow Madness

I’m really liking textured polishes, but at first I wasn’t too sure about the ones that aren’t glittery and sparkly. I think they’ve grown on me, though!

Jordana Wild Shore and Yellow Madness

These two are by Jordana, which is made by the same company that makes Milani. These seem to be the exact same polishes as Milani’s Texture Creams, only they were a couple dollars cheaper so I got these instead!

Jordana Wild Shore

I started out with Wild Shore, a teal green creme with texture. I can’t remember whether I did two or three coats, and I don’t seem to have written it down. I do remember having a little trouble with application, as I found these really need thin coats in order to get the best finish (so I’m thinking I probably ended up doing three thin coats), and at first I was making my coats too thick. Then I was trying to find the right balance between thin coats but having enough polish on the brush.

Jordana Wild Shore

But I’m really happy with the way it turned out! I then sponged on a gradient using Jordana Yellow Madness along with Wild Shore.

Jordana Wild Shore and Yellow Madness

I love the combination of yellow and turquoise! And the sponging really brings out the texture of these polishes, since the sponging technique leaves less polish on top of the texture particles. Looks really sugary and crystalline!

Nicole by OPI That’s What I Mint

Today I have That’s What I Mint to show you, one of the texture polishes from Nicole by OPI.

Under my Ott light:

Nicole by OPI That's What I Mint

It’s not actually mint at all, it’s a deep teal with lots of sparkle, including gold glitter. Shown are two coats, and I had no issues with application.

Natural light:

Nicole by OPI That's What I Mint

Teal textured glitter with a hint of gold, it should be no big surprise that I just love this polish!

Nicole by OPI That's What I Mint

Here it is with topcoat in the last two photos. It needs two layers of top coat to smooth it completely; I applied one layer and then later on, after it was fully dry and the polish had “eaten” the top coat a bit, added the second layer. The photos were taken after applying the first layer of top coat.
