Black Dahlia Lacquer Austin City Limits

The next Black Dahlia Lacquer I have to show you is Austin City Limits, a light periwinkle/cornflower leaning blue holo with added gold holo microglitters and pink-purple shimmer flecks.

blackdahlialacquer_austincitylimits_flashott2

There was no sun unfortunately so these first photos are all with flash and/or Ott Lite.

blackdahlialacquer_austincitylimits_flashott

Two coats plus top coat, no issues with the formula.

This photo is under halogen lighting:

Shaded natural light:

The pink-purple shimmer flecks were hard to capture in photos, but I think this photo I took at work does the best job of it (hey, fluorescent office lighting is good for something after all!):

The second day I added stamping with my new Messy Mansion XL rectangular stamper, which I love and highly recommend! It’s squishier than the Konad stampers, plus the rectangular shape helps to get patterns on straighter.

blackdahlia_austincitylimits_stampingmm13

This is basically the first time that I’ve done a full-nail pattern on all ten nails, since I used to have so much trouble with patchy spots and getting them on straight.

blackdahlia_austincitylimits_stampingmm13_1

I stamped using China Glaze Gold Fusion (one of the magnetics, they’re great for stamping!) and the plate is Messy Mansion MM13. I’m excited to do lots more stamping with this new Messy Mansion stamper! πŸ˜€

Kunimitsu Nail Potions Russian Blue

Today I have a cat-themed polish for you: Russian Blue by Kunimitsu Nail Potions on Etsy.

kunimitsu_russianblue3

It’s a shimmery greyish-blue with light blue microglitter and gold dot glitter to represent the cats’ eyes.

kunimitsu_russianblue2

Shown in three coats plus topcoat.

kunimitsu_russianblue

I did have to work a little to get the gold dots out of the bottle and placed onto the nail, but it wasn’t too problematic.

kunimitsu_russianblue4

I really like this fun, pretty polish!

And here is my little blue boy, Julius! Isn’t he handsome? πŸ˜€ He is also just about the friendliest little guy imaginable; he loves everyone, including a dog named Fluffy who lives in an apartment down the hall from us.

julius

Julius was adopted from a local shelter where he had been brought as a stray kitten. He has a chronic upper respiratory infection (I had to clean some crusts off one of his eyes to prep him for his photo shoot, in fact). He’s been on every antibiotic in the book over the years but the infection always comes back. On a serious note, it’s really lucky for him that he was adopted by people who would never return him to the shelter for sneezing globs all over their furniture and stuff year after year, because that “shelter” isn’t a no-kill and I don’t know if cats returned for that kind of issue might then be deemed “unadoptable”… 😦

Love you, Julius! ❀

Indigo Bananas Endless Nights

Sorry for the lack of posts! I haven’t been swatching/photographing lately but I still have plenty of photos I never posted so I think I should start posting them even if I don’t have tons of time to do elaborate write-ups or anything!

This is Indigo Bananas Endless Nights, a plum/burgundy duochrome holo with strong blue/pink duochrome. I can’t remember if this was two or three coats.

A few odds and ends

I have a few random phone pics of relatively-recent manis to share today!

Quo by Orly Infinity and Beyond (same as Orly Milky Way), layered over Cosmetic Arts Sky High (which I think is the same as Color Club Take Me To Your Chateau). Accent nail is just the Cosmetic Arts by itself.

20140220-120319.jpg

Kleancolor Concrete, a one-coater, with Kleancolor Yogurt Raisins on the accent nail.

20140226-182450.jpg

Maya Cosmetics Big Chief, two coats. The glitter was a little sparse but other than that it had a great formula.

20140226-184231.jpg

And finally, Misa High Brow, a gorgeous vampy purple shimmer with a satin-matte finish. On my rarely-seen right hand:

Zoya Zuza, Wednesday, and comparisons

I should have posted this ages ago, but then I lost the photos of the nail wheel comparisons… or maybe I forgot to take the photos, I don’t know! So I took new ones recently, but they aren’t exactly colour-accurate… Ah well, I’m posting them anyway! πŸ˜€

Zoya Zuza

Here is Zoya Zuza, a beautiful shimmery turquoise. Two coats, and the formula was a little thick, according to my notes. I love Zuza.

Zoya Zuza

Zoya Wednesday

Zoya Wednesday, a slightly dusty turquoise/minty/tiffany blue creme. Two coats, three on my ridgey ring finger. The formula on this one was a little thin.

Zoya Wednesday

And here are the comparisons! The photos are not colour accurate; they photographed a bit too green and dark, which you can see by comparing Wednesday (3:00 position on the left wheel) to the swatch photos above. So keeping that in mind, the pic can give an idea of how similar they are to other polishes in the same colour family. Zuza is directly next to Wednesday on the other wheel, at the 9:00 position on that wheel. Should have numbered the polishes on the wheels, sorry about that…

(Not colour accurate, leans slightly too green.) Authority Cosmetics Swatches and Review

Today I have four polishes to show you from the relatively-new brand of vegan polishes, Authority Cosmetics. Two cremes, a slight duochrome shimmer, and a glitter topper – let’s get started with the swatches, shall we? πŸ˜€

Authority Cosmetics Disco

This great lime green creme is Disco. I used two coats.

Authority Cosmetics Disco

The formula was thick and pigmented and went on without streaks; I was really impressed!

Authority Cosmetics Disco

The glitter topper, I Heart You, has a clear pink base and is filled with small iridescent glitter and pink and red heart-shaped glitter. I applied one thick coat over Disco and wasn’t sure if it would work out with the green and pink layered, but it turned into a really great olive green shade! I think it actually ended up being my favourite combo with I Heart You! A couple of swirls of the brush generally brought out 1-3 hearts from the bottle without trouble, and there was a little placement of hearts involved to get them distributed evenly on the nail.

Authority Cosmetics Disco and I Heart You

The second shade, Paradise, is a medium bright blue creme, also thick and pigmented like Disco. In fact, this swatch shows just one thick coat.

Authority Cosmetics Paradise

I probably should have done two thinner coats instead of one thick, since I ended up getting a few tiny bubbles as it dried, but I wanted to see if it covered in a single layer.

Authority Cosmetics Paradise

The sun had gone away so this next pic is under the Ott lite:

Authority Cosmetics Paradise

Here is one coat of I Heart You over Paradise, turning it a dusty periwinkle. Sorry for the little bald spots in the glitter; I didn’t notice until I took the photos!

Authority Cosmetics Paradise with I Heart You

Last but certainly not least, the duochrome, Emerald Sky. This is a shimmery green-teal-blue subtle duochrome in a smoky, slightly blue-purple base! (These first photos in natural light are a little too blue, and the later ones under Ott and halogen light are more colour accurate.)

Authority Cosmetics Emerald Sky

The base is sheer to let the shimmer show through, and the formula is thinner than the other polishes. It builds to a nice glowy colour in just two coats though, which is what is shown here.

Authority Cosmetics Emerald Sky

Under Ott Lite:

Here it is again under Ott lite, with a layer of I Heart You on the ring finger:

Authority Cosmetics Emerald Sky with I Heart You

I also did a comparison with one coat over black versus two coats alone (bottom to top in the photos).

Authority Cosmetics Emerald Sky alone and over black

Applying over black makes the look more opaque and dark, but doesn’t really change much about the colour shift. At an extreme angle, you can see the shimmer shifts more to blue.

This last photo is under halogen light.

Authority Cosmetics is available on their website here. They have just 10 colours so far, but if they’re all like the ones I’ve reviewed here, the quality is great! I have to say I am impressed with these! πŸ™‚

Glitter Gal – Navy I Will Navy I Won’t, Big Smoke, and Gloss Boss topcoat

Today I have swatches and reviews of a couple of Glitter Gal’s new releases to show you! For those who don’t know, they’ve just released two new collections of creme shades, a new holo, two new holo topcoats, and a colour-enhancing high-gloss topcoat!

Glitter Gal Big Smoke, Gloss Boss, Navy I Will Navy I Won't

Here are the polishes that I am reviewing today – Big Smoke, a medium-dark grey creme, the new colour-enhancing topcoat Gloss Boss, and the new blue holo called Navy I Will, Navy I Won’t.

Glitter Gal Big Smoke

Let me start with the grey creme, Big Smoke. Two coats, no topcoat, in the first photo. The formula was smooth and thinner than some creme formulas, but not too thin.

Glitter Gal Big Smoke, Gloss Boss

Then I added a layer of Gloss Boss topcoat. Super shiny, and dried quickly!

Glitter Gal Big Smoke, Gloss Boss

Nice, simple deep grey! The previous photos were with flash. Here’s one under the Ott lite without flash:

Glitter Gal Big Smoke, Gloss Boss

And now, the new holo, Navy I Will, Navy I Won’t! I’ve gotta say, the colour is great and the name is great, but I wouldn’t have put the two together! It’s a medium, saturated/almost bright blue, not a navy.

Glitter Gal Navy I Will Navy I Won't

I used two coats; the formula was great. These first two photos are without topcoat, the above with flash and below with just the Ott lite. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to photograph it in sunlight, since, well, it’s the darkest month of the year, here!

Glitter Gal Navy I Will Navy I Won't

There is a very slight teal-leaning metallic shimmer to the surface of the polish, when the light shines on it, as you can see in some of the photos.

Glitter Gal Navy I Will Navy I Won't and Gloss Boss

Gloss Boss is said to enhance holographic polish, rather than dull the effect like some topcoats tend to do. The rest of the photos include one layer of Gloss Boss, and as you can see the holo is still obvious and the polish is a lot glossier. Again, the above photo is with flash and the following is under the Ott lite.

Glitter Gal Navy I Will Navy I Won't and Gloss Boss

I’ll have to round up all the topcoats I have at some point to do a comparison on how they each affect holographic polishes!

Glitter Gal Navy I Will Navy I Won't and Gloss Boss

A couple more flash photos to show off this beauty… Check out the linear holo flame:

Glitter Gal Navy I Will Navy I Won't and Gloss Boss

These and the other new releases are available on Glitter Gal’s website: http://www.glittergal.com.au/. I’m not sure when their other distributors will get these collections in, but I imagine it’ll be soon!

Kunimitsu Chocolate Point Siamese and Cinnamon Raisin

Kunimitsu Nail Potions is a new-to-me indie brand sold on Etsy, that I just recently learned makes vegan-only polishes (and lip glosses too!). A bunch of the polishes are inspired by cats, and the brand name is in memory of one of the creator’s cats. All these photos are taken with flash and under the Ott lite, since it was dark out.

Kunimitsu Chocolate Point Siamese and Cinnamon Raisin

These two polishes are Chocolate Point Siamese and Cinnamon Raisin (the ring finger accent). I thought they complemented each other really well, having the same base colour but with different glitters.

Kunimitsu Chocolate Point Siamese and Cinnamon Raisin

Chocolate Point Siamese is a nude beige slightly shimmery base with brown and holo light blue medium hex glitter, very small brown glitter, and tiny gold sparkles. Cinnamon Raisin has the same base and the two sizes of brown glitter, but also purple and lilac medium hexes and small gold hexes. They both seem to have some holo microglitter in there too, but it’s sort of hard to tell! But there are tiny little flashes of holo-looking sparkle sometimes.

Kunimitsu Chocolate Point Siamese and Cinnamon Raisin

Shown are two coats of each polish, and I found they covered well and the base was smooth. I did have to do some shaking and tilting of the bottle to get out a good amount of glitter, and do some dabbing to distribute it where I wanted it.

Kunimitsu Chocolate Point Siamese and Cinnamon Raisin

Drying time was very good! All photos do include a layer of topcoat. Overall I’m really impressed with these and looking forward to trying the others I got!

Don’t you love the awkward hand pose clutching two mini bottles? Haha πŸ˜€

Picture Polish Lagoon

Three Picture Polish posts in a row? Why not! And this one is my favourite polish of the three. πŸ˜€

Picture Polish Lagoon

Lagoon is a turquoise jelly polish with scattered holo particles and medium sized turquoise holo hex glitter. Shown above with flash, and in natural light for most of the other photos.

Picture Polish Lagoon

Two coats and no complaints about the formula! It was slightly thick but easily spreadable and self-leveling.

Picture Polish Lagoon

Love, love, love. This one will definitely make my list of favourite polishes released this year!

Zoya FeiFei and comparison

Today I have another polish from last fall to show you! Zoya FeiFei from the Diva collection.

Zoya FeiFei

FeiFei is a multicoloured foily fleck polish that is predominantly blue, with hints of gold among others. I love this type of foily flecks.

Zoya FeiFei

Three coats are shown, and the formula was great.

Zoya FeiFei

Under Ott Lite:

With flash:

Zoya FeiFei

One coat over black, in overcast natural light. It doesn’t really look much different over black, just, well, darker.

Zoya FeiFei over black

I compared FeiFei to Zoya Crystal, another blue with gold.

Zoya FeiFei and Crystal

Left: FeiFei, right: Crystal.

Three coats of each polish.

Zoya FeiFei and Crystal

Pinkie to index: Crystal, FeiFei, Crystal, FeiFei.

Crystal is a lighter, more true blue than FeiFei, and only has blue and gold flecks. The flecks are slightly bigger in Crystal as well. FeiFei is murkier in comparison due to the multi coloured flecks giving off an overall greyish look.
