China Glaze At Vase Value and comparison

I really love China Glaze At Vase Value. Four thin coats (plus topcoat) to even out the streaks is what’s shown here, which sounds like a lot, but it dries extremely fast. You can easily go digging through your purse five minutes later and not smudge the polish at all. These photos are all with flash since they were taken at night.

Since At Vase Value makes me think of another favourite bright pastel turquoise of mine, Color Club Blue-Ming, I did a little comparison. Blue-Ming is on the left (index nail) three coats plus topcoat, At Vase Value on the other three nails. As you can see, Blue-Ming is a little darker and greener. I love them both!

Picture Polish Cyan

Picture Polish Cyan is a wonderful light blue creme-based shade with scattered holo. It was designed by blogger Marta from Chit Chat Nails. I used three coats plus top coat here, the third coat mainly for good measure; dry time was good. In (late-afternoon) sunlight:

Black Dahlia Lacquer – Lime Green Daisies, Lilac Petals, and Bleeding Hearts

Today I’ve got three beautiful Black Dahlia Lacquer polishes to show you! The first one is Lime Green Daisies, which was from the New Year’s multichrome flake duo. It’s a metallic, yellow-toned pastel green with copper-pink/green multichrome flakes, strong gold shimmer, and turquoise glass flecks. I used two coats plus top coat for this swatch.

Next is Lilac Petals; this was the exclusive extra polish I received in a ‘buy 4 petite-sized polishes get an exclusive petite polish free’ sale not long ago. It’s got a denim blue base with metallic red-maroon flakes and pink and blue glass flecks. The photos show two coats, no top coat. Love!

And the third polish I have to show today is Bleeding Hearts. This is from the Valentine’s Day collection. It’s an almost-neon pinky purple with multichrome flakies and turquoise glass flecks. I used three coats, although two would probably be fine as well, and no topcoat in this swatch.

All three of these are just gorgeous! Black Dahlia Lacquer really makes some great polish. 😀

Black Cat Lacquer He Loves Me Not and comparisons

This beauty is Black Cat Lacquer He Loves Me Not, released in February 2014 in an indie collaboration box (but I got it secondhand from someone’s blogsale).

blackcatlacquer_helovesmenot

It’s a neon pinky-purple with these great blue flakes. The flakes are opaque and tend to sink to the bottom of the bottle, but turning it upside down for a minute or two before use solves that.

blackcatlacquer_helovesmenot2

Here you can see a bunch of the blue flakes up against the side of the bottle:

blackcatlacquer_helovesmenot4

I used three coats plus top coat and didn’t have any issues with application.

blackcatlacquer_helovesmenot3

I love these blue flakies!

I did a comparison with Fingerpaints Gorgeous Graffiti and Glam Polish Beauty School Dropout, similar neon purples that have blue flecks of different types.

The Fingerpaints is slightly more purple and has translucent blue glassfleck-type flecks rather than opaque flakes.

The Glam Polish is slightly pinker and dustier and has much smaller blue glassflecks as well as scattered holo.

Milani Golden Sea, Zoya Dillon, and a failed watermarble attempt

Today I have a mani from a couple months ago to show you (trying to finish up with my backlog of posts before starting on all the more recent swatches I have!), as well as a fail from the mani that directly preceded it!

milani_goldensea_zoya_dillon2

The blue is Milani Golden Sea, an older shade, and the metallic/shimmery pastel green on my ring and pinkie is Zoya Dillon from last year’s spring collection. These first two photos are in sunlight taken with my phone.

milani_goldensea_zoya_dillon

Golden Sea has a metallic turquoise blue base with some gold shimmer and sparse, hard-to-tell-they’re-holo holo particles. I didn’t even realize that’s what they were until I did the water marble fail I’ll show at the end of the post, and saw them under the halogen light on the very thin film of polish. So, I wouldn’t call it a holo polish but it actually does have these tiny (smooth and flat, non-glitter) sparse holo particles! As always you can click on any photo to get a larger version; I think the particles show best in either the halogen shot below or the first sunlight ones…

And here is my first ever attempt at water marbling, which did not work at all! It was really cold in the apartment a couple months ago when I tried it; that was probably my first mistake! The polishes dried on the cold water before I could do any marbling. The polishes I used were the two from the mani above plus Zoya Piaf, the shimmery yellow that was also my base polish. The first marble attempt is the one on my ring finger, where the polishes spread out super thin and dried that way. That’s where I saw that the particles in Golden Sea were actually holo. I kind of liked the effect even though I didn’t get to do any marbling, so I tried for another finger, the index, but for that attempt the polishes barely spread out at all so I got this ridiculously thick mess! It doesn’t show that well in the photo, since the angle is pretty much head-on, but it was like a big, thick, lumpy decal that I decided to just put on my nail anyway, haha! Planning to try water marbling again some time, now that the weather is warmer!

Deep Blue Holo Comparison featuring Glitter Gal and NCLA

I meant to post this comparison ages ago. Better late than never? 🙂

Left to right: Glitter Gal Teal Blue, Glitter Gal Navy I Will Navy I Won't, Glitter Gal Marine Blue, NCLA Spaced Out

Left to right: Glitter Gal Teal Blue, Glitter Gal Navy I Will Navy I Won’t, Glitter Gal Marine Blue, NCLA Spaced Out

Here are three blue Glitter Gals and one NCLA for the sake of contrast; NCLA Spaced Out is a creme-based scattered holo unlike the linear holo Glitter Gals. Two coats each.

Teal Blue is more teal obviously, and Navy I will Navy I Won’t and Marine Blue are similar to one another.

Left to right: Glitter Gal Teal Blue, Glitter Gal Navy I Will Navy I Won’t, Glitter Gal Marine Blue, NCLA Spaced Out

Marine Blue is just a bit darker than Navy I Will, and the metallic shimmer flash of Navy I Will leans a little bit teal while Marine Blue’s is more of a royal blue (the shimmer and its contrast is most obvious in the photo directly above).

ILNP Music Box, Cutie Pop and Dreaming in Violet

This is a mani I wore last year back when these polishes were new, released for spring 2014 by I Love Nail Polish (ILNP).

ilnp_musicbox_cutiepop_dreaminginviolet7

The purple is Dreaming in Violets, the pink Cutie Pop, and the blue Music Box. Two coats each plus top coat.

ilnp_musicbox_cutiepop_dreaminginviolet6

They each have this great glass-fleck shimmer to them, although it’s most apparent in Cutie Pop since the shimmer in that one is gold and contrasts better with the base colour. Above I was trying to show off the blue glass flecks in the bottle of Music Box. The flecks in Dreaming in Violet are a fuchsia/purple shade.

ilnp_musicbox_cutiepop_dreaminginviolet5

Love these three! And the formula on them was great. I’ll just let the rest of the photos speak for themselves…

Girly Bits Protect Your Girly Bits and Man Size Love

I recently learned that Girly Bits polishes are vegan friendly and decided to try some out. Girly Bits Protect Your Girly Bits is a purple linear holo with red microglitter. Here I have it with an accent pinkie in Girly Bits Man Size Love, which looks fairly similar to Protect Your Girly Bits in the bottle, but on the nail you can see it’s much more blue than purple!

girlybits_protect_mansizelove

Man Size Love is a purple-leaning blue linear holo with small (not micro) light blue glitter in it. As usual you can click on any of the photos to see the larger versions.

girlybits_protect_mansizelove3

I used two coats of each, plus topcoat. Before topcoat they both have a slight texture due to the added glitter, especially Man Size Love whose glitter is a bit larger.

girlybits_protect_mansizelove2

Here they are in the shade:

With flash, and you can see the red microglitter in the bottle really well (I’m holding the bottle of Protect Your Girly Bits in all shots):

Maya Cosmetics Reef and China Glaze Seahorsin’ Around

Another mani from last year, another Maya Cosmetics polish! This is Maya Cosmetics Reef, a great turquoise blue creme with heavy gold flakes, shown in two coats plus top coat. The texture polish is China Glaze Seahorsin’ Around, also two coats. Under Ott Lite:

Black Dahlia Lacquer Wild Bergamot and Illamasqua Mélange

Black Dahlia Lacquer Wild Bergamot is a medium blue-grey creme with dense gold flake shimmer. Here it is shown with flash.

blackdahlialacquer_wildbergamot_flash

This was a ‘one-batch’ polish and I just checked and it looks like unfortunately it’s already sold out as it’s no longer listed in the Black Dahlia Lacquer store. 😦 BDL people, if there’s any one-batch polish that you change your mind about and add to the permanent collection, make it this one!! 😀 I love it that much! It’s a unique shade of blue-grey in my collection.

blackdahlialacquer_wildbergamot_flash2

Here it is shown in shade/overcast light:

blackdahlialacquer_wildbergamot_shade

Wade was hanging around at one point while I was photographing it, nudging my hand and then licking my wrist, so I made a collage 🙂

20150308-170304.jpg

I added an accent V of Illamasqua Mélange on my ring finger using scotch tape to make the V shape. The rest of the photos are in the sunlight that appeared a little later yesterday.

blackdahlialacquer_wildbergamot_illa_melange2

blackdahlialacquer_wildbergamot_illa_melange

On my right hand I did two nails in Mélange. I love Mélange as well, the gold and copper-pink flecks in the green are just perfection! I’d love to have a whole collection of shades with those flecks in them…
