Il était un vernis Matcha Doing Today?, Picture Polish Honeymoon, and stamping

I’ve got a couple of lovely pastel holos with glass-flecks and shimmer to show you today.

The lime green is Il était un vernis Matcha Doing Today? and the seafoam /minty blue-green is Picture Polish Honeymoon. First two photos under Ottlite.

I used three coats each plus top coat. Flash photos:

I then added stamping using Colour Alike “A Blue Ocean” over Matcha Doing Today and “A Fresh Mojito” over Honeymoon. The image is from It Girl plate 101.

Zoya Mason and Colour Alike 547

Zoya Mason is a gorgeous red-toned purple shimmer with red pigment sparks. I paired it with Colour Alike 547, which has a brown-plum base with holo and duochrome that shifts blue-purple-plum-fuchsia-orange. I used two coats plus top coat for each of these polishes.

Emily de Molly Lace Man and stamping

Emily de Molly Lace Man is a medium grey polish with lots of gorgeous pink shimmer.

emilydemolly_laceman2

I used two coats plus top coat and it had a very nice formula.

emilydemolly_laceman

I stamped a couple of accent nails over Lace Man using Orly Rose Radiance, which is a great polish for stamping. The image is from Pueen 108.

Love this polish and combo!

I later added some more stamping so that the one remaining plain nail became the accent nail! This last photo is with flash.

Nubar Affair and comparisons

Nubar Affair is a teal green jelly with lots of fine gold shimmer particles. I’d say this first (phone) photo is the most colour-accurate; the others seem slightly too blue.

nubar_affair5

I used three coats plus top coat; as you can see there’s still a little visible nail line in certain lights.

I did a comparison to two other similar polishes. Top to bottom in the photo below: Pretty Serious Khepri’s Amulet (two coats), Nubar Affair, NYX Jungle (four coats), Nubar Affair.

Khepri’s Amulet is slightly greener than Affair and is more brushstokey with its frostier metallic finish. NYX Jungle is more sheer than Affair, and on the nail its gold shimmer is more distinct from the base.

Polished by KPT Mars Escapade

I did this swatch a couple of months ago when it was really hot out! I should probably just re-do the swatching now that it’s not a zillion degrees out, but oh well, I thought I’d post these anyway! Anyway, this is a thermal by Polished by KPT called Mars Escapade. Here it is in its fully hot state:

polishedbykpt_marsescapade

And here was my pathetic attempt at getting it in its cold state… cold tap water was just not cutting it.

polishedbykpt_marsescapade4

So then a I grabbed an ice cube and took some more pics trying to show the “cold” colour!

Basically this was a lesson not to bother wearing thermals in the summer here, haha! I should try this one again now that it’s getting cold out. This was three coats plus top coat by the way, and the formula was excellent and very easy to apply!

Pretty Serious Kashmir and Orly Fowl Play comparison

Kashmir by Pretty Serious was created in collaboration with blogger Christine of Serenity Nails.

prettyserious_kashmir

It’s a warm dark purple with lots of shimmer and red-gold-green flakies. I used two coats plus top coat and the formula was excellent.

prettyserious_kashmir_shade2

It looks slightly redder in real life compared to my photos, I found. In the shade:

prettyserious_kashmir_shade

I did a comparison to Orly Fowl Play which ended up not being as similar as I expected.

prettyserious_kashmir_orly_fowlplay

In the bottles you can already tell they definitely aren’t dupes.

Left to right: Orly Fowl Play, Pretty Serious Kashmir, Orly Fowl Play, Pretty Serious Kashmir.

prettyserious_kashmir_orly_fowlplay3

I used three coats (plus top coat) for Fowl Play as it has a more sheer jelly base. Fowl Play also has much more dense flakies including blue microflakies in addition to the larger red ones. Kashmir’s flakies hardly show up at all in comparison. Kashmir is also warmer/redder than Fowl Play.

prettyserious_kashmir_orly_fowlplay2

I used to also own OPI Merry Midnight, which is very very close to Fowl Play, so I’m holding a swatch stick of Merry Midnight for the last two photos (the stick has one, two and three coats of Merry Midnight going progressively up the stick). Flash:

prettyserious_kashmir_orly_fowlplay_opi_merrymidnight2

Merry Midnight is almost the same as Fowl Play but its base is not quite as dark and so is a bit closer to the base colour of Kashmir. Shade:

LA Girl Allure, Orly Ablaze, Black Dahlia Lacquer Fuchsia Flower, and stamping

Here’s a kind of skittley mani, due to a comparison I wanted to do. It started out as LA Girl Allure with an accent nail of Black Dahlia Lacquer Fuchsia Flower, but then I switched my index nail to Orly Ablaze since I wanted to see how it compared to Allure.

lagirl_allure_orly_ablaze_blackdahlia_fuchsiaflower

Ablaze is more orange, while Allure is more coral, and of course they have different shimmer as well; Orly’s gold shimmer is larger flecks while the LA Girl’s is very fine.

lagirl_allure_orly_ablaze_blackdahlia_fuchsiaflower3

Fuchsia Flower has blue glass flecks in it, which aren’t showing up very well on the nail in these pics but you can see clearly in the bottle below.

lagirl_allure_orly_ablaze_blackdahlia_fuchsiaflower2

I stamped on the mani using Fingerpaints Minimalistic Mauve (over the coral/orange nails) and Picturesque Purple (over Fuchsia Flower), and plate Hehe-040.
