Zoya Rory, Kimber, and Comparisons

Today I have another one of my straggling summer Zoya posts – the two pink foily polishes from the Surf collection! (Look at how long my nails were – I really liked this length/shape! ;))

First is Rory, an awesome cool-toned, lilac-leaning bubblegum pink foil polish! Quite unique, I love it! This was two coats. The formula was a little thick but easy to apply.

And next, Kimber, a darker red-toned warm fuchsia pink with golden shimmer.

I’d say that Kimber’s finish is somewhere between foil and glass-fleck, definitely not a true foil like Rory.

This is also two coats of Kimber, whose formula was similar to Rory’s, although slightly thinner. Neither had any issues with application.

And now, some nail wheel comparisons of any and all polishes I had that were remotely similar! The first photo is indoors near my Ott light, the second in direct sun; neither is that great lighting-wise but I hope each can make up for the other’s deficiencies in showing the colours! Kimber and Rory are directly across from one another at the point where the two wheels are closest to each other.

As you can see, Rory is unique even among the other pink foils I have, and Kimber is fairly similar to China Glaze Strawberry Fields. Strawberry Fields is a bit lighter and less red though, and its shimmer is less dense.

A quick post with a classic, but unfortunately hard to find, polish: China Glaze’s LOL from the OMG collection. It’s a gorgeous glowy purple linear holo. I can’t remember now if this was two or three coats…

Picture Polish Voodoo and Comparison

Picture Polish Voodoo is a gorgeous deep plum/burgundy base with golden glass fleck shimmer, giving an overall brownish-burgundy look.

The burgundy base is a little sheer, so that the golden glass flecks shining through it often appear like red sparkles. As you can see in the bottle in the following shot, they’re definitely gold though!

The formula was a little thick but not difficult to work with. These photos show two thick coats of the polish.

I love it!

I did a comparison of Voodoo to China Glaze Midtown Magic, which I previously reviewed here. From top to bottom, the photo shows Midtown Magic, Voodoo, Midtown Magic.

The main difference is that Midtown Magic is darker, more blackened. The shimmer also has more red in Voodoo, due to it shining through its base. My favourite of the two is Voodoo since it’s not as blackened!

China Glaze Cast a Spell and Make a Spectacle

Happy Halloween! These two polishes are from China Glaze’s Halloween collection, Wicked.

This is Cast a Spell, a blackened green with golden shimmer flecks.

It has a great formula; shown are two coats that glided on super-smoothly.

And this is Make a Spectacle, one generous coat over Cast a Spell. Make a Spectacle has a ton of iridescent hex and small glitter as well as golden glass flecks in a clear base.

And here is Make a Spectacle on its own, 3 coats. Pardon the orangey stained nails underneath!

I absolutely love Make a Spectacle; I think I’m going to have to get a back-up bottle, especially considering it’s one of those thick glitter-packed polishes that tends to get used up quickly!

China Glaze Want my Bawdy

Today I have another of the China Glaze New Bohemian polishes to show you. This is Want My Bawdy – groan-worthy name that looks like something OPI would come up with, but beautiful indigo blue shimmer with slight purple duochrome!

The duochrome on this one is very mild; it’s the least duochrome in the collection, but there is a bit of a purple flash at an angle in the right light, as seen in the above photo.

The formula was thin and sheer, and I got some bald spots in my application from not waiting long enough between coats (as often happens, I was rushing to get my swatching done before the sunset!). These swatches show three coats of the polish, no top coat.

In the next two photos I swatched it over black as I usually do with duochromes (one coat of Want My Bawdy over one coat of Kleancolor Black), but it didn’t really change the look of this one much. It mostly just makes it appear more blackened around the edges. This next photo is with flash (all the others are in sunlight).

Despite the very subtle nature of the duochrome in this polish, I’m personally not disappointed with it! It’s a beautiful glowy blue, and that hint of purple flash that comes out occasionally is just an added bonus. 🙂

China Glaze Fast Track

China Glaze Fast Track is a taupey-beige nude with heavy golden shimmer flakes. It was released last spring in the Hunger Games collection.

Shown are two thick coats. In the sun photos, there’s also a layer of topcoat. As evidenced by the sideways watermark, these pics were also taken using my phone, haha!

I found the formula a little thick but didn’t have any problems with application.

The sun photos didn’t quite catch all the tiny sparks of different colours, little flashes of orange and green, that are often reflected in the sparkle of this awesome polish!

As a bonus here is what I ended up doing to this mani after a couple of days, mainly because I didn’t want to take the time to remove Fast Track first, and then I just kept adding things, haha…

Over Fast Track is a coat of Orly Nite Owl, an opaque taupe with silver shimmer, then two layers of Glitter Gal Buckled Bronze, Nubar Petunia glitter on the tips, and Spoiled by Wet n Wild’s Trust Fund Baby over it all!

China Glaze Unpredictable

Today I have another duochrome from China Glaze’s New Bohemian collection to show you! The first two polishes I reviewed from the collection are here.

This is Unpredictable, a metallic green/teal duochrome. Like the other polishes in the collection, the metallic finish is slightly brushstrokey but not so much that it really qualifies as “frost”.

Shown are three coats, but I probably could have gotten away with two. No issues with application other than taking a bit of care to get the brushstrokes straight. Here you can see that head-on, the leaf-green aspect is prominent, whereas the above photos at a bit more of an angle show off the teal side of the polish.

The rest of the photos show one coat of Unpredictable over one coat of Kleancolor Black, deepening the overall effect. As usual lately, please disregard any lumps in the too-thick base polish!

This polish didn’t disappoint; I think the duochrome is quite apparent and the two green tones are really nice!

I Won a Giveaway!

Not too long ago the awesome Lauren and Loren at Lacquer and Lashes held a giveaway with an amazing prize… And I won! 😀

The prize was two bottles of discontinued nail polish, OPI Opening Night Gold and China Glaze Emerald Sparkle!! I had wanted Opening Night Gold for ages, but figured it was something I would never see in person since I wasn’t ready to pay crazy ebay prices for it! So needless to say, I was very excited to win the giveaway. Thank you so much, Lauren and Loren!!!

Opening Night Gold is an oldie, from the 2003 Holiday on Broadway collection. It’s a gorgeous golden beige linear holo!

The swatches show three coats. The formula is thin and smooth. It’s from before the switch by OPI to “Big 3 Free” polishes, so it does contain those ingredients. Which personally doesn’t really bother me; I try not to huff my polishes while applying them either way! 😉 Opening Night Gold dries very quickly, like a lot of similar holographic polishes do!

There’s not much more to say except I LOVE THIS! 😉

The other polish, China Glaze’s Emerald Sparkle, is not as hard to find as the OPI but is also discontinued. Apparently this was first released in China Glaze’s 2008 holiday season collection, and there are two versions in existence. This one is the “good” version! 😉

Shown are two coats of this deep green jelly with green glitter. It dries a little dull and rough on its own due to all the glitter, so a nice thick topcoat is in order for this one! The first two photos show it with topcoat added.

These last two are pre-topcoat; if you click on the photos to see the large versions you can see the difference in texture.

Both of these polishes are awesome and I highly recommend picking them up if you should happen to run across them! Emerald Sparkle can also usually be found for a reasonable price on ebay.

China Glaze Knotty

China Glaze Knotty was released in 2011 as part of the Anchors Away collection. It’s pretty unique, being a glass-fleck nude beige polish.

I used three coats, the last one thick, since it’s a fairly sheer polish, and I felt like it needed all three coats. The drying time was long (it was still dentable for several hours even with quick-dry top coat), which isn’t surprising given the number and thickness of coats I used. These photos were taken before I added the top coat.

The beige is neutral-to-yellow in its undertones, and I find it almost gives me a “mannequin-hands” look except for the glass fleck shimmer! It’s a really pretty, subtle polish, and I think it’s worth the long dry time! I just won’t be wearing it on days that I’m trying to get a mani done quickly! 😉

Zoya Shelby and Comparisons

When I posted my Zoya Beach skittles, I promised swatches and comparisons of the Beach and Surf collection polishes, and the project is going slowly but I’ve finally got the first one ready: Zoya Shelby, a bubblegum pink creme.

I used three coats for this swatch because I was having issues with streaks and lumps, but I think I had just had too much coffee that day or something since I only needed two coats of Shelby when I did the skittles.

These next two photos were taken the following day so they include top coat. I can’t remember what happened to my index finger to make it no longer presentable, I suppose probably a chip! As usual, the ridges on my ring finger are just the way the nail is, not the fault of the polish!

Now for some comparisons. Each swatch on the nail wheel progressively shows the polish at one, two and three coats from base to tip. These were taken in full sunlight which is probably not the best light for photographing nail wheels (diffused light would be better), so I’m including two photos at different angles.

I included one shimmer polish (Pink Underground) since the shimmer is subtle and the base colour is in the same family. I also included some popular darker (Candylicious) and lighter (Got a Date, Pink Friday, Empowerment) pinks to show where Shelby fits into the spectrum.

These last swatches are under the Ott Lite, showing just the polishes that are closest to Shelby.

Top to bottom: Nubar Pink Creme, Zoya Shelby, Gosh Bubblegum, Milani Tip Toe Pink

I’d say in one way that Gosh Bubblegum is the most similar of them since it also has a cool undertone while Tip Toe Pink and Pink Creme are slightly more warm. But Tip Toe Pink is the closest in terms of the depth of the shade, since the Gosh polish is definitely lighter!
